Honorable Mayor and Members of City Council
South Miami, Fla.
Gentlemen:
eYLVA O. MARTIN
CITY CLKRK
The application of the Florida Power & Light Company re-
garding the construction of certain new electric transmission
lines, has been referred to the Advisory Planning and'Zoning
Board by the Council. The proposed construction in accordance
with the attached letter, is to be as follows:
An electrical transmission line to be constructed on the
North side of N. 4th Street between N. 4th Avenng and Red Road,
and on the North side of Miller drive between N. 4th Ave. and.
Ludlum Road, which line will fortify the power supply to ktheir'
Coconut Grove and 62nd Ave. substations, which serve a large
part of the South Miami area.
1. The line will be constructed in accordance with all
requirements of the National electrical safety code. The exist-
ing electrical distribution line along N. 4th St. will be con-
structed on the transmission line poles in accordance with such
code.
The AAximum span anticipated for the transmission poles is
300 ft. The minimum ground clearance from the foot of the 66,000
volt conductor will be approximately 40 ft. based - -on a 300 ft.
span. Standard clearance for a 66 000 volt conductor over or
alongside of a building is 10 ft. $ in. for a 150 ft. span and
proportionately greater to 12 ft. 2 in. for a 300 ft. span. The
Fla. Power & Light Company is to construct these lines so as to
provide standard clearance between the lines and any existing building
and structures. Ne are advised that insurance rates or existing
rates will not be increased if the lines are constructed with
standard clearance.
Should N. 4th Street be widened at some future date, the Com-
pany is to relocate its facilities on the right-of-way,-thereof, with-
out cost or expense whatsoever to the City. The Florida Power and
Light Compan;f is to eliminate the hazards now caused by the power
pole at the intersection of N. 4th St. and'Red Road. With the con-
struction of the new, asoline service station at the N.W. corner of
Red Road and N. 4th St., the pole in question creates a serious
traffic hazard.
