RE: Tree Removal at 7500 SW 57th Court
1
The property located at 7500 SW 57th Court had a large ficus tree on it. The owner of the
property started to trim the tree but changed his mind and obtained a tree removal permit.
The tree removal permit was issued on August 23, 2004. At that time Doug Baker stated
that the mitigation would be two hardwood trees with a minimum height of 12 to 14 feet
tail. His decision at that time was due to the fact that the tree was a ficus, which is not a
protected species.
Having received several complaints, Mr. Baker revisited the issue and reevaluated the
mitigation for the removal of the tree due to the size of the tree canopy. W. Baker's new
mitigation is that the owner should plant seven replacement trees for the removal of the
ficus. Also, it should be noted that by removal of the ficus, there are two large oak trees,
which were over shadowed and now will be able to grow to their proper height and
canopy.
The tree removal permit, which was issued, has been amended to reflect this change.
Please find attached a copy of Mr. Baker's memo reevaluating the mitigation.

CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI
INTER - OFFICE MEMORANDUM
PARKS & RECREATION DEPARTMENT
TO Michael Sprovero DATE: September 30, 2004
Building & Zoning Director
FROM, Doug Baker SUBJECT: Tree Removal
Maintenance Supervisor
Mike, after reviewing the aerial photos concerning the removal of the large Fichus from the
property located at 7500 SW 57 Court, and based on my best estimation, the replacement for
this canopy should be seven 10 feet - 12 feet native hardwood trees. This information
coincides with calculations and formulations set through our City policies.
Realize that this tree (Fichus) is not a protected species. However, the canopy that existed in
the past was very large, and my concern is the proper growth of the two large Oaks that
were overshadowed by the Fichus. Hopefully, now that the Fichus is gone, proper growth
will occur strengthening these Oaks trees
I hope that this memo will assist you with any issues concerning the above mentioned.
.If you have any questions, please feel free and call me.
Thank you.
