City Manager ,
Commission Meeting May 18, 2004
Re: Fee Schedule and Waiver Program
MEE
However, the Ad Hoc Committee was concerned that there are some South Miami
residents who are below the average income levels and should be eligible for a
reduction in these fees. Therefore, the Finance Department was asked to prepare a
chart that could be used by staff to determine the amount of fee reduction that a family
or individual would be eligible for. The Finance Department developed the attached
"Fee Waiver /Deduction Calculator' based on the Miami -Dade County Public Schools
Free and Reduced Lunch program guidelines. Although there was some discussion
about more closely duplicating the Free and Reduced Lunch program's income
eligibility guidelines for the City's fee reduction /waiver program, the majority of the
Committee members were in favor of implementing the Finance Department's Fee
Waiver/Reduction Calculator. The Recreation Ad Hoc Committee concluded that the
Finance Department's guidelines would enable a greater number of residents to
participate in City recreational programs.
We recommend that the City Manager be authorized to establish the attached schedule
of tees as well as implement the Fee Waiver /Reduction program for qualifying South
Miami residents.
