Davis ' AGENDA ITEM No.—T City Manager RE: Adopting the 5 -Year People's Transportation Plan RESOLUTION: A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, ADOPTING THE FIVE -YEAR (2003 TO 2008) PEOPLE'S TRANSPORTATION PLAN; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS: In accordance with the County's adopted Ordinance No. 02 -116, levying and imposing a one half of one percent Charter County Transit System Surtax ( "Surtax ") pursuant to the authority of Section 212.055(1) Florida Statutes. The city will receive a pro rata share of this imposed surtax based upon the ratio the city's population bears to the total population in all eligible cities. The city is required to apply the entire portion of its share to supplement, not replace, the City's general fund support for transportation and transit purposes. As part of the County's funding requirements, we are required to submit a 5 -Year People's Transportation Plan, showing the projects we plan to accomplish during the five -year period. The attached proposed plan was first prepared for review on October 15, 2003. Since then, two public workshops (January 15, 2004 and March 23, 2004) were held to discuss, review and amend the plan. The attached plan was accepted during the last workshop and we are now submitting it for adoption. RECOMMENDATION: It is recommended that the City Commission approve the resolution.
