A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,
FLORIDA, AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE A GRANT AGREEMENT
WITH THE MIAMI -DADE COUNTY DEPARTMENT OF CULTURAL AFFAIRS FOR THE
SUNDAYS ON SUNSET CONCERT SERIES AND ACCEPT THE GRANT AWARD OF $3,562
FROM THE FY 2005 -2006 COMMUNITY GRANTS PROGRAM — FIRST QUARTER;
AUTHORIZING THE 1:1 DOLLAR MATCH IN THE AMOUNT OF $3,562 TO BE CHARGED TO
THE GENERAL FUND NON- DEPARTMENTAL ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT ACCOUNT
NUMBER 001 - 2100 -519 -9931; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS:
The Miami -Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs Council approved a Community Grants
Program — First Quarter award in the amount of $3,562.00 to the City of South Miami for the
Sundays on Sunset monthly program. This FY 2005 -06 award will be available for release
during the County's fiscal year (10/01 — 9/30). The Cultural Affairs Council recommendation
was forwarded to the Miami -Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners for their
approval at their October 18, 2005 meeting.
The grant funds will be used to further promote and market the monthly Sundays on Sunset
event with the greater expectation that additional residents, tourists and visitors will visit the
downtown area. The open air concert and related activities are designed to provide an
opportunity to bring high quality jazz performances and other entertainment to an area
experiencing cultural and community revitalization.
The required match, in the amount of $3,562.00, will come from the General Fund Non -
Departmental Economic Development Account Number 001 - 2100 - 519 -9931 that was budgeted
for the Sundays on Sunset program. This account has a current balance of $10,000.00.
RECOMMENDATION:
The Administration recommends approval and adoption of this resolution.

14 WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wish to accept a First Quarter FY 2005 -
15 2006 Community Grant from the Miami -Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs in the
16 amount of $3,562.00 for the Sundays on Sunset concert series; and

18 WHEREAS, the grant award will provide partial funds to sponsor and promote the
19 Sundays on Sunset event; and
20
21 WHEREAS, the grant requires a dollar for dollar match which will come from the
22 General Fund Non - Departmental Economic Development line item in the amount of $3,562.00;
23 and

25 WHEREAS, the City was formally notified of the grant award on October 12th, 2005,
26 and was provided with said contract agreement forms to be executed no later than October 25,
27 2005; and

29 WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission authorize the City Manager to execute the
30 grant contract agreement for the First Quarter FY 2005 -2006 Community Grant program with
31 Miami -Dade County Department of Cultural Affairs.

33 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION
34 OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT:

36 Section 1. The City wishes to accept the FY 2005 -2006 Community Grants Program -
37 First Quarter grant in the amount of $3,562.00.

39 Section 2. The 1 :1 dollar match will be provided from the General Fund Non -
40 Departmental Economic Development line item Account Number 001 - 2100 -519 -9931 in the
41 amount of $3,562.00 with a current balance of $10,000.00.

43 Section 3. The Mayor and City Commission retroactively authorize the City Manager to
44 execute the FY 2005 -2006 grant agreement with Miami -Dade Department of Cultural Affairs.

46 Section 4. This Resolution shall be effective immediately upon adoption.

It is my great pleasure to announce that at their meeting on September 28, 2005, the Miami -Dade County Cultural Affairs
Council approved a Community Grants Program - First Quarter award in the amount of $3,562 to City of South Miami for
the Sundays on Sunset. Further, this award recommendation was forwarded to and will receive final approval by the
Miami -Dade County Mayor and Board of County Commissioners at their next meeting.
Enclosed are grant agreements and other paperwork necessary for the processing of this award: Please be sure to read
and follow the enclosed instructions carefully. ALL necessary materials must be completed and returned by 4 PM on
Tuesday, October 25, 2005.
Your FY 2005 -2006 grant award will be available for release during the County's fiscal year (October 1, 2005 - September
30, 2006). Please note that your grant award will not be released until your completed FY 2004 -2005 final report has been
received. This report is due within 45 days of project completion. If your report is currently outstanding, we have included
a copy of the report form for your convenience.
Also, please remember that grant funds not encumbered (contracted for) by the end of the County's fiscal year in which
they were awarded, or for which a project extension has not been approved, shall revert to the Department of Cultural
Affairs on September 30th.
