BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS
The Parks and Recreation Department was awarded a grant by the Florida Department
of Environmental Protection (DEP) through the Land and Water Conservation Fund
(LWCF) to fund improvements to Brewer Park. The planned improvements include the
installation of an access control fence along the canal that borders the park and along a
portion of SW 57th Street where it turns into SW 63`d Court. The fence will prohibit direct
access to the canal from the playground and picnic area, as well as provide protection
from vehicles travelling west on SW 57th Avenue toward the park.
The wood fence will be constructed of 6m X 6" posts (5' on center) set in concrete with
two 2" X 10r rails bolted to the posts. All materials will be pressure - treated to extend the
life of the fence. The Parks and Recreation Department has solicited quotations for the
fence installation, and the lowest responsive quotation was submitted by Carlson Fence
Company, Inc. in the amount of $10,690.00.
The attached resolution would authorize the City Manager to disburse funds in the
amount of $10,690.00 to Carlson Fence Company, Inc. for this work. Funding is
available in the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) account #
001.0000. 131.1461 that currently has a balance of $188,170.83.
RECOMMENDATION
We recommend that the City Manager be authorized to disburse the amount of
$10,690.00 to Carlson Fence Company, Inc, Inc. for the fence installation at Brewer
Park.
