Davi City Manager Date: August 2, 2005 South Miami bAd c" 1111 r 2001 Agenda Item # S ' Re: Brewer Park Access Control Fence — LWCF Grant 1 � �. � ■ 1. �. � � � � � � � # i 1111F 11 BACKGROUND AND ANALYSIS The Parks and Recreation Department was awarded a grant by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) through the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) to fund improvements to Brewer Park. The planned improvements include the installation of an access control fence along the canal that borders the park and along a portion of SW 57th Street where it turns into SW 63`d Court. The fence will prohibit direct access to the canal from the playground and picnic area, as well as provide protection from vehicles travelling west on SW 57th Avenue toward the park. The wood fence will be constructed of 6m X 6" posts (5' on center) set in concrete with two 2" X 10r rails bolted to the posts. All materials will be pressure - treated to extend the life of the fence. The Parks and Recreation Department has solicited quotations for the fence installation, and the lowest responsive quotation was submitted by Carlson Fence Company, Inc. in the amount of $10,690.00. The attached resolution would authorize the City Manager to disburse funds in the amount of $10,690.00 to Carlson Fence Company, Inc. for this work. Funding is available in the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) account # 001.0000. 131.1461 that currently has a balance of $188,170.83. RECOMMENDATION We recommend that the City Manager be authorized to disburse the amount of $10,690.00 to Carlson Fence Company, Inc, Inc. for the fence installation at Brewer Park. • • • 13MOR" WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department has received grant funding through the Florida Department of Environmental Protection's Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) for improvements to Brewer Park; and WHEREAS, one element of the improvements project is the installation of a wood-rail access control fence; and WHEREAS, Carlson Fence Company, Inc. has provided the lowest responsive quotation for the fence installation. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION *F THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI: Section 1. That the City Manager is authorized to disburse $10,960.00 to Carlson Fence Company, Inc. for the installation of the fence at Brewer Park. Section 2. That the payment in the amount of $10,960.00 be charged to the Land and Water Conservation Fund grant Account Number 001.0000.131.1461, which currently has a balance of $188,170.83. Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon execution.
