RESOLUTION:
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, APPROVING EMERGENCY ROOF
REPAIR FOR THE POLICE DEPARTMENT BUILDING IN AN AMOUNT
OF $6,500 TO BE CHARGED TO GENERAL CONTINGENCY ACCOUNT
NUMBER 001- 2100 -519 -9920; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE
BACKGROUND & ANALYSIS:
Following the last heavy rain event, the Public Works Department documented a roof leak at the
Police Department. To prevent further damage to the roof and possible damage to the equipment
and /or materials in the building, Public Works immediately obtained the attached three proposals
and obtained the applicable permit to do the repair. We delayed requesting the Commission's
approval in order to make sure additional costs would not be incurred for asbestos inspection
and /or removal if needed. Fortunately, asbestos inspection was not required. After obtaining the
clearance for asbestos and the permit, the repair commenced during the week of May 15, 2005,
and acceptance of all work, including final inspection, is scheduled for on or before June 8, 2005.
The cost of this emergency repair will be charged to General Contingency account number 001-
2100 -519 -9920, with a balance of $38,774.14 before this expense.
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that the City Commission approve the resolution.

WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission approve the emergency roof repair for the
Police Department building, and;
WHEREAS, three quotes were obtained, with CODA Roofing, Inc. coming in with the
best price.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISION OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1: That the Mayor and City Commission authorize the emergency roof repair for
the Police Department building.
Section 2: That the Mayor and City Commission authorize the City Manager to charge
the cost of the repair to General Contingency account number 001 - 2100 -519 -9920, with an
account balance of $38,774.14 before the expense.
Section 3: That the Mayor and City Commission authorize the City Manager to pay
CODA Roofing, Inc. for the repair of the roof.
Section 4: This resolution shall be effective immediately.
