Guzman DATE: 11 -26 -07 City of South Miami Police Department INTER- OFFICE MEMORANDUM SUBJECT: Lion Country Safari For the past several years the explorers have been taken to Peace River for camp outs. Due to the level of the water table the river has been closed until further notice. I have looked into an alternative location that will be more cost effective and has many educational values. Lion Country Safari, located at 2000 Lion Country Rd. Loxahatchee, Florida. This would be a two day trip leaving early on Wednesday January 2, 2008 and returning late Thursday January 3, 2008. There will be 12 explorers and 3 adults for a total of 15. If approved there will be a total of 4 cabins at cost of $68 per cabin for two people, total $272 for the overnight. Each extra person will be $8 per person for a total of $56 for the extra seven people. The tickets to the park which include rides, attractions, animal encounters and animal exhibits are $22 for adults and $17 for children. The total for adults will be $66 and $204 for the children. I have averaged a $20 per day, per person, for meals for a total of $600. The total for the trip will be approximately $1198. The transportation, fuel cards, and toll cards will be provided from the city. The kids will be out of school for that week and it should be an enjoyable but yet educational experience for all. Due to their muscular shoulders and thin legs, they have a top -heavy appearance. There is a fringe of hair on their chests, and their faces are strongly whiskered. Their horns curve out over their ears and turn sharply upward at the ends. Wildebeest dominate the plains and acacia savannas of southeastern Africa, where they feed on short grasses. Waterbuck rove in small herds in grassy or lightly wooded areas of central Africa. The most water dependent of all the antelope species, they are never found far from the edge of a marsh or river. It originated on the islands of Corsica, Sardinia, and Cyprus, but has recently been introduced in much of Europe. Like most wild sheep, the mouflon lives in mountainous terrain, usually above the tree line or in mountain meadows. In Corsica it lives on steep -sided rocky peaks, where it is protected from predators. It has a red -brown color with a dark area along its back, and lighter colored side patches. Its underparts are white as well as the bottom half of their legs. It has a white muzzle and white circles around its eyes. A mouflon is about the size of a medium sheep with a weight range of 55 -120 pounds. They are 4-5 feet long, and stand about 2 -4 feet tall at the shoulders. They have a rough coat, and during the winter grow a woolly under coat that keeps them warm. For additional information, check these Web Sites: www.rossparkzoo.com www.eriezoo.org Addra Gazelle (Species Fact Sheet) A diurnal species, this gazelle requires more water than others adapted to its dry habitat, although it can survive long periods of draught. Like most desert species, the dama gazelle is highly nomadic, ranging widely in order to obtain sufficient nutrition. In addition, these gazelles undertake large seasonal migrations, moving north into the Sahara desert during the rainy season, and retreating south into the Sahel during the dry season. To maximize the amount of food available, these gazelles may stand on their hind legs in a manner reminiscent of the gerenuk in order to reach leaves above the normal browsing height. Adult males are believed to be territorial during the breeding season. Four feet high at the shoulder, up to 8 feet in length and weighing up to 550 lbs., They are the largest of the African carnivores. Lions live in family groups called prides which are usually made up of a core of related females and their r offspring. One to five adult males dominate and protect the pride. The lion's ... roar is a way of communicating and may be audible up to 5 miles away. Here at Lion Country Safari, our lions are kept in their very own preserve for an obvious reason: they are, after all, excellent hunters, and many of our other animal residents are the lion's natural prey.
