FOR BROAD CANAL DEBRIS REMOVAL AND SHORELINE STABILIZATION IN AN AMOUNT OF $30,000.00 TO BE CHARGED TO GRANT ACCOUNT NUMBERS 106 -1713- 536 -3450 AND 106 - 1727 -536- 6550; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE Request: Authorizing the City Manager to work order to AA Engineering Services, Inc. for the stabilization of Broad Canal shoreline and debris removal in an amount of $30,000.00. Reason /Need: While performing repairs to the Broad Canal shorelines as a result of damages sustained during Hurricane Wilma, we have encountered approximately 3 feet thick layer of silt and muck that needs to be dredged. In addition, we plain to clean lots of floating debris on the water, which includes, palm fronds; organic peat matter, coconuts, trash and other debris (see attached pictures). The contractor has submitted the attached $13,852 proposal for the additional work. An inspector from the project's funding agency visited the, jobsite and agreed to fund the additional project scope of work (see attached e-mail dated Friday, April 20, 2007) from the contractor. In addition to the proposal amount, we recommend approval of $16,148 contingency for future unforeseen circumstances during the project. Cost: $30,000.00 Funding Source: U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resource Conservation Service Grant Account No. 106 -1713- 536 -3450 will fund 50% of the total cost and 50% will be funded by Florida Department of Environmental Protection Grant Account No.: 106 - •1727- 536 -6550 with account balances of $339,767 and $626,000, respectively. The Contract cost is $ 348,000.00, which is less than what the project agreement has ($600,000.00). Yes tell the contractor to remove the sediment and debris next to the culvert.
