CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI
INTER- OFFICE MEMORANDUM
To: City Commission
From: W. Ajibola Balogun zo — -
City Manager
Date: December 16, 2008
Re: Miami Dade County's Intersection
Improvement at SW 62nd Avenue and
Miller Road.
Update:
Miami Dade County's Intersection improvement at SW 62nd Avenue and Miller road
Action Taken:
As part of the last City's Commission's agenda package, I included the attached
preliminary design plan for the intersection of SW 62 Avenue and Miller Road; a copy
of the accompanying letter from Miami -Dade County; and staff's cover memorandum.
To date, we have received the following comments from a Commission member:
1. The curbing and drainage are essential features and they should be included as
part of the project.
2. Currently there are no sidewalks on the north side of Miller Road. The new
design does not appear to allow room for future sidewalk at the northeast
corner. It is also suggested that sidewalks to be included in the design so they
can be done now or at a future date. It is also suggested that construction of
sidewalks now in the immediate area of the intersection should be done to
facilitate pedestrian crossing.
3. The turn lanes on the north leg should not extend into the driveway area of the
residents
We intend to forward all our comments to the County on Wednesday 17, 2008 so
please let us know if you have additional comments
Should you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to call me.

Re: Request for a Traffic Study to Improve and Protect the Northwest Comer of the
Intersection of SW 62 Avenue and SW 56 Street "
Dear Mr. Valdes:
In response to your referenced request, please be advised that Public Works
Department (PWD) staff conducted a traffic study to evaluate traffic conditions and
physical characteristics at this intersection.
As a result of the traffic study, an exclusive right turn lane has been proposed to be
built at the north leg of the intersection of SW 62 Avenue and SW 56 Street. This
additional exclusive right turn lane will improve the capacity and consequently the level
of service of this intersection. As part of this improvement project, utilities affected by
the proposed intersection geometric configuration change will be relocated according
with highway design standards established by the Florida Department of
Transportation. PWD will initiate the design and once plans are completed, this
improvement will be scheduled for construction as funds and contracts become
available.
Should you have any questions or require additional information, please contact Ms.
Doraida Rodriguez, Area Traffic Engineer, at (305) 375 -2839.
