Re: Update on Drainage System
along SW 62nd Street.
During the last City Commission meeting, Commissioner Palmer expressed concern
about the condition of the drainage system along SW 62nd Street, just west of SW 62nd
Avenue.
Action Taken:
Attached is a brief report on staff's findings regarding the drainage problems along SW
62nd Street, just west of SW 62nd Avenue. We have added the location to our priority
list of Capital Improvement Projects and we intend to seek for funding from next
year's budget and future grant funds to replace the existing drainage system along the
corridor. Meanwhile, I have asked staff to monitor the area and perform regular
cleaning of the drains.
Should you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to call me.

Subject: Street Flooding- SW62nd Avenue /SW 62nd Street
Date: August 15, 2008
This is to inform you that staff has investigated the street flooding at the above referenced location and
has determined that there are (2) existing storm drainage structures that appear to drain slowly after an
intense storm event, therefore causing water to pond for several hours in the roadway and adjacent
residential driveways. The storm drainage structures are located on the north and south side of SW 62 "d
Street as you approach SW 62 "d Avenue. Public works staff has also reviewed available drainage asbuilt
records which only show drainage improvements that occurred along SW 62nd Terrace and not in this
specific area. Please note that these (2) storm drainage structures in questions have been regularly
maintained by public works staff, but it appears from the photos that after a storm event, water continues
to pond for several hours more, indicative of an old drainage system that needs to be replaced
immediately.
