Request: Authorizing the City Manager to endorse the South Florida Parks Coalition Charter and the principles on which it stands to include the application of the Miami -Dade County Open Master Plan initiatives and the its effects on the City of South Miami. Reason/Need: The City of South Miami lies within the Miami -Dade County Open Space Master Plan area of planned participation and would be one of many municipalities within the county to endorse said plan. Proposed Open Space Master Plan improvements include a parks system that is an accessible, diverse, balanced system of passive and active recreation opportunities that promote safety, security, and healthy lifestyles while offering connectability throughout the entire city. THE SOUTH FLORIDA PARKS COALITION CHARTER AND THE PRINCIPLES ON WHICH IT STANDS; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, parks, open spaces and preserves are vital to the lives of all residents of Miami Dade County; and WHEREAS, the City of South Miami is committed to the fundamental and abiding values of recreation opportunity and environmental stewardship; and Z. WHEREAS, The South Florida Parks Coalition is dedicated to building a model park system that will promote a greener, healthier, and more livable South Florida community; and WHEREAS, The South Florida Park Coalition is created to foster a seamless, connected, and sustainable parks system for the South Florida community, and WHEREAS, The Coalition will meet, collaborate, and share knowledge and professional expertise regarding park, recreation and conservation open spaces; and WHEREAS, we know that there is strength in unity and collaboration. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI COMMISSION THAT: Section 1. The City of South Miami endorses the Charter of the South Florida Parks Coalition, attached and included by reference, and fully supports the principles on which it stands.
