A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, DIRECTING THE LOCAL PLANNING AGENCY (PLANNING BOARD) TO CONSIDER AMENDING THE SOUTH MIAMI COMPREHENSIVE PLAN TO CREATE A NEW FUTURE LAND USE CATEGORY TO BE ENTITLED "RELIGIOUS INSTITUTION ( TWO- STORY)" PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Future Land Use Map (FLUM) of the Comprehensive Plan contains a category entitled "Public Institutional' which permits uses such as public schools, municipal facilities, churches, temples, synagogues and hospitals, and sets forth a four story maximum height limit for buildings; and WHEREAS, there is concern that religious institutions which are located in and abutting single family residential areas may be constructed to a height of four stories; and WHEREAS, a solution to this concern would be to create a new Future Land Use Map category specifically for religious institutions which would be limited to two-stories in height. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. In order to establish a new Future Land -Use Map category specifically for religious institutions the Planning Department and the Local Planning Agency (Planning Board) are hereby directed to draft and process the appropriate Comprehensive Plan amendment to create a "Religious Institutional' land use category with a two story building height limitation. Section 2. This resolution shall be effective immediately upon being approved. PASSED AND ADOPTED this , day of April, 2008.
