A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, RELATING TO ELECTION; CANVASSING THE ELECTION RETURNS OF THE GENERAL ELECTION HELD FEBRUARY 12, 2008 FOR THE PURPOSE OF ELECTING A MAYOR, AND COMMISSIONERS FOR GROUPS II AND III, DECLARING RESULTS OF SAID ELECTION; PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE. WHEREAS, the Miami -Dade County Supervisor of Elections, Lester Sola, sitting as a Canvassing Board, have examined the election results of the General Election of the City of South Miami, Florida, held on February 12, 2008, as certified by the Supervisor of Elections and declares the said election results to be proper and correct and, having counted and recorded the absentee ballots in the manner provided by law; and WHEREAS, the total votes cast in said election for each candidate is as follows: MAYOR'S RACE Horace G. Feliu Received 1,028 votes Valerie Newman Received 465 votes COMMISSIONER GROUP II Brian Beasley Received 599 votes Yvonne Beckman Received 413 votes Marie R. Birts Received 470 votes COMMISSIONER GROUP III Rene W. Gwim Received 552 votes Velma Palmer Received 576 votes David Walker Received 365 votes NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA; Section 1. That Horace G. Feliu has been re- elected Mayor for a term ending February 9, 2010; Brian D. Beasley has been elected for Commissioner in Group II, for a term ending February 14, 2012; and Velma Palmer has been re- elected for Commissioner in Group III for a term ending February 14, 2012. Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval.
