Subject: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
MIAMI, FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE PARKS & RECREATION BOARD TO
ESTABLISH A DOG PARK DEVELOPMENT AD -HOC SUBCOMMITTEE THAT
WILL REPORT TO THE CITY COMMISSION IN 60 DAYS AND DIRECTING
THE CITY ATTORNEY TO DEVELOP A "POOPER SCOOPER" ORDINANCE
THAT REQUIRES PET OWNERS TO CLEAN UP AFTER THEIR DOGS
UTILIZE A DOG PARK; PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
Request: To direct the Parks & Recreation Board to establish a Dog Park
Development Ad -Hoc Subcommittee that will report their results to the
City Commission in 60 days and to direct the City Attorney to develop a
"Pooper Scooper" Ordinance that requires pet owners to clean up after
their dogs utilize a dog park.
Background: Based on the direction of the City Commission to investigate the
potential for a Dog Park there are sites within the City Parks that
have the potential to locate this type of facility. In order to ensure
community involvement and community acceptance, the Parks &
Recreation Board recommends establishing a subcommittee to
review the proposed locations, size, and location of the facility
within the park and actual design. Therefore, the recommendation
from the Administration is that the City Commission direct the P &R
Board to establish a subcommittee and report back within 60 days.
It is further recommend that the City Commission inform staff if any
of the program locations are unacceptable for further study. Finally,
it is recommended that the -City Attorney be directed to develop a
"Pooper Scooper" ordinance that requires pet owners to clean up
after their dogs utilize a dog park.

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF , THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,
FLORIDA, DIRECTING THE PARKS & RECREATION BOARD TO ESTABLISH A DOG
PARK DEVELOPMENT AD -HOC SUBCOMMITTEE THAT WILL REPORT TO THE

WHEREAS, The residents of the City of South Miami have expressed their interest for a dog park
to be established within the City limits;
WHEREAS, a Dog Park Project Report has been compiled by the Parks & Recreation
Department outlining the best potential sites for a dog park within the City of South Miami;
WHEREAS, it is being requested that The Parks & Recreation Board be directed to establish an
Ad -Hoc Subcommittee to study the logistics of the proposed dog parks and report back to the City
Commission in 60 days;
WHEREAS, it is being requested that the City Attorney be directed to develop a "Pooper-
Scooper" Ordinance that requires pet owners to clean up after their dogs utilize a dog park;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1: The Mayor and City Commission direct the Parks & Recreation Board to establish
an Ad -Hoc Subcommittee to study the logistics of the proposed dog parks and report back to the City
Commission in 60 days.
Section 2: The Mayor and City Commission direct the City Attorney to develop a "Pooper-
Scooper" Ordinance that requires pet owners to clean up after their dogs utilize a dog park.
Section 3: The attached exhibit is incorporated by reference into this resolution.
