Below: The lone newsstand. Pleasant Living. It's my fault and I accept that, and I will not point the finger at others who have glaring violations that stare you in the face every day. I won't do that, accept when it comes to the city itself. It's nice that the city came and cleaned up the alley, as the neighbors' trees had grown over the fence and were hanging all over the alley. The guys and maybe gals spent day upon day, trimming, cut- ting back and hauling away the debris, trash and junk that had accumulated over a very long time. They did a great job and I commend the city for doing it. Now comes my dig. At the end of the alley or beginning, depending on which end is the head or the rear end, there are giant potholes, deep ones, dangerous ones, ones that can break your car, ones that are so deep that an unsuspecting motorist could break their car, or a walk- er could fall into one and break a toe, or worse, a leg or maybe fall face down into the potholes and hurt themselves or maybe crack their skull: You know, it's a hazard back there, back there specifically around 65 Street and the alley, which is between SW 62 Avenue and 62 Court. So, fo&% be aware there are huge pot- holes on the city maintained "street," right behind the small food store on SW 62 Ave. Be careful when you walk around there, cuz it's dangerous and a public hazard, and it looks way worse than our measly old newsstand. Now guys, if you just happened to fall and break your leg and want to sue the city for failing to maintain its property in a good working condition and for allowing the condi- tion to get worse and 'worse over all these years, (especially after being put on notice) I'll betcha, yup betcha, that you can sue and collect more than if you fell on the properly maintained street or if the city didn't know the street was in such deplorable condition. And here's a little suggestion to the city manager: take my $200 which the city now has and shove it into the city coffers so that you can get the money to fix up the worst street in the city, before some- one gets hurt and on top of that have to pay their medical bills and legal fees. . P.S. It would have taken about two min- utes for the ticket writer to come to our. front door and say "Thanks for cleaning up those old stands, but there still is one back there that needs to be removed." But, heck, that would have been too easy, and the city does need the money so that it can pay the legal fees that are being.built up with the city defending itself against the former city manager Ajibola Balogun. But not maintaining good relations with its citizens and busi- nesses can cost the city a lot more than it gains through unnecessary fines.
