RESOLUTION NO.
A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF
THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, APPROVING THE
PLACEMENT OF AN ADVERTISEMENT FOR A CITY MANAGER;
AND PROVIDING AN EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS, The Mayor and City Commission appointed Roger Carlton to serve
as the Acting City Manager, and
WHEREAS, a statewide search for a City Manager should be conducted to make
sure that the City has a wide pool of applicants to consider for the position of City
Manager.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA;
Section 1. The attached advertisement shall be placed by the City Clerk in the
Florida League of Cities' Datagram and the Florida City and County Management
Association's website (www.fccma.org) as soon as possible.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

About Us
The City of South Miami, Florida, is situated approximately three miles south of the City
of Miami, and encompasses two and a half square miles within Miami -Dade County. It borders
the University of Miami's main campus and the cities of Coral Gables and Pinecrest. South
Miami was incorporated in 1927 and has a population of approximately 10,500. The "town
center" area east of US 1 is a vibrant shopping, dining and entertainment venue with a hometown
ambiance. Two major hospitals within the city provide employment and services to people
throughout the county and beyond.
What We Seek in a.City Manager
The City Manager reports to a five member City Commission and is the chief
administrative officer for the city. The ideal candidate must have successfully demonstrated
strong leadership and managerial experience, thorough knowledge of the principles and practices
of local government administration; excellent communication, managerial and financial skills;
exhibit a passion for serving people and be an enthusiastic team leader. The candidate should
demonstrate the ability to supervise department heads and to work with the members of the City
Commission and residents of the City to achieve results and resolve problems. The candidate
must be honest, open, accessible and comfortable interacting with the City Commission, staff
and citizens:
We expect the City Manager to represent the City before the State Legislature, county,
other cities, community groups, neighborhood associations, and in regional, state and national
venues and be able to communicate in an articulate and compelling manner the City's vision,
policies and plans, as approved by the City Commission. The successful candidate must have a
bachelor's degree, with a graduate degree preferred, in public administration, business
management, finance, or related field, plus a minimum of 5 years of increasingly responsible
senior management experience in municipal government or other governmental agencies; or as a
Chief Operating Officer in a public, non - profit or private sector organization with similar
responsibilities.

The closing date for applications is January 29, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. (sharp), and all
applications must be in the hands of the City Clerk by that date and time. Applications received
after that date or time will not be considered. The initial review of the applications will occur at
either a regularly scheduled City Commission meeting in February 2010 or at a Special City
Commission meeting called for that purpose. Candidate interviews with the City Commission
will occur during the month of February or March of 2010. The City of South Miami, Florida, is
