To: Honorable Mayor Feliu, and Members of the City Commission
Via: Roger M. Carlton, Acting City Manager
From: Robert F. Richardson II, Chief of Police
Date: November 17, 2009
Subject: Weed and Seed Program
In the upcoming months and years, the Police Department is committed to being an integral and
important facilitator for the Weed and Seed Program. The City was recently awarded a grant from
the federal government with the assistance of The Non - Violence Project to fund this project for
$1,000,000 for the upcoming years.
The Police Department will provide a member for the Steering Committee and will be a key player
in the program — especially as relates to the "Weed" efforts. The "Weed" in Weed in Seed is the
removal, or eradication, of criminal activities, such as illegal drugs or graffiti. We also will be
involved with the "Seed" side of the program. This part involves programs to revitalize the target
area once the neighborhood has been "weeded ".
Should you have further questions from the police standpoint please do not hesitate to contact us as
we open for input in our efforts.
