BACKGROUND The City of South Miami routinely receives notices from adjacent municipalities if there is a land use change, zoning change, or variance application submitted for a property within a specified distance from the City's boundary line. A notice received last week from the City of Coral Gables involves an expansion of a church/school on N. Kendall Drive (SW 88th Street) which is a few hundred yards from the City's Dante Fascell Park and the City's southeast boundary line. The proposed change is based upon an application submitted by St. Thomas Church/School to construct an open athletic field for soccer games on what is a vacant one acre residential lot abutting their main property on the east side. The change will require a land use map change and a zoning district change. Attached is a copy of the Coral Gables notice and a map showing the location of the site. A first public hearing on the application is scheduled before the Coral Gables Planning and Zoning Board on Wednesday night on June 3, 2009. An Ordinance of the City Commission of Coral Gables approving a change of zoning from Single Family Residential (SFR) to Special Use District (S) fora 1.0 acre parcel proposed foruse as an athletic field forthe St Thomas Church /School, located on portions of Lot 2, Avocado Land Company's Subdivision (5450 North Kendall Drive), Coral Gables, Florida (legal description on file); providing for a repealer provision, a savings clause, and a severability clause, and providing for an effective date. c. An Ordinance of the City Commission of Coral Gables granting site plan approval for the new St. Thomas Church /School athletic field and modifications to the existing parking lots, located on portions of Lot 2, Avocado Land Company's Subdivision (5450, 5690 and 5692 North Kendall Drive), Coral Gables, Florida (legal description on file); providing fora repealerprovision, a savings clause, and severability clause, and providing for an effective date. This application is scheduled for consideration by the Planning and Zoning Board in the Commission Chambers, City Hall, commencing at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. The application will be scheduled for City Commission consideration thereafter. No further notice will be provided. All interested persons are advised that if they decide to appeal any decision made by the City Commission on the recommendation of the Planning and Zoning Board on this item, they will need a record of the Planning and Zoning Board and the City Commission meetings, and therefore they may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings are made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
