Mekras Miami Urologic Institute 7051 S.W. 62 Avenue South Miami, Florida 33143 Dear Dr. Mekras: This letter is to confirm and restate the issues that you and a member of my planning staff, Bill Mackey, discussed yesterday regarding status of signage at your property. In addition, copies of the documents you discussed are attached for clarification and your information. On October 2, 1990, you received an approval for a landscape sign on the property located at 7051 S.W. 62 Avenue (see attached Resolution No. 112-90-9038). Under this approval, as set forth in § 20-4.3 (I)(34) Land Development Code, no other flat signage (building signage) is permitted in conjunction with the approval of the landscape sign (see attached Code excerpt). On June 8, 1993, your request for a variance to permit an additional flat sign (plaque) on the building failed to be approved by the City Commission. According to the minutes (attached),. several proposals were suggested for changes to the signage ordinance by the Commission; however, none of the options have been incorporated into the signage ordinance to date. In response to your inquiry regarding your options for the erection of signage which has been denied by the City Commission, Mr. Mackey proposed the following: 1) Wait for the anticipated signage revisions to be sponsored by the City and speak at the Public Hearings in support of change to the signage ordinance; 2) Petition the City Commission at their next regularly, scheduled meeting to address your signage concerns separately from the anticipated ordinance; "City of Pleasant Living" 3) Remove the existing landscape sign and apply for permits to erect signage that includes regular flat signs on the building, including the sign in question; or, 4) Apply again for a variance to permit additional flat signage which is your right. Mr. Mackey agreed with you that a request for a variance would be apt to conclude with a result similar to your previous application. Regarding #3, Mr. Mackey commented that for visibility purposes your existing landscape sign would be preferable to the proposed plaque. Mayor McCann suggested placing the plaque on the back of the building where patients park if the plaque is necessary for identification. No one else wished to speak and the public hearing was deemed closed. Discussion was held, by the Commission, with regard to permitted signage. The question of "directional" signage and "building directory" signage was discussed. Moved by Mayor McCann, seconded by Vice-Mayor Cooper for discussion, that the plaque be permitted on the rear of the building for identification purposes. F .
