Date: April 30, 2009
As per your request, the following is a synopsis of events and current status on the above referenced request:
• On 07/29/08, the City Commission adopts the City of South Miami Mango Terrace Neighborhood Traffic
Management Plan via Resolution No. 121 -08- 12718.
• As per the adopted plan, the City of South Miami (CSM) Public Works - Engineering Department issues a
formal letter request dated 08/13/2008 to Miami -Dade County (MDC) Traffic Engineering Division; the
agency having jurisdiction over street traffic and signals, for implementation of traffic restrictions and
regulatory signs, to include 25 mph speed limit signs in the Mango Terrace neighborhood area and citywide.
• MDC Traffic Engineering Division responds to CSM's formal request via letter dated 12/31/08, which
included a requirement to execute an "Intergovernmental Agency Agreement to Perform Traffic Engineering
Functions" between the City of South Miami (CSM) and Miami -Dade County.
• The CSM Public Works - Engineering Department submits to MDC Traffic Division via letter dated 03/03/09, a
draft of the Intergovernmental Agency Agreement.
• On 4/8/09, MDC Traffic Division responds via email to' CSM Public Works Engineering Department with
review comments on the previously submitted draft Intergovernmental Agency Agreement.
• On 4/17/09, the CSM - Public Works Engineering Department submits to MDC Traffic Division a revised
Intergovernmental Agency Agreement with MDC comments incorporated, as well as comments per City
Attorney.
• As of 4/30/09, the CSM Public Works Engineering Department awaits for final review of the
"Intergovernmental Agency Agreement to Perform Traffic Engineering Functions" from MDC Traffic
Division, so staff may present a draft of the final agreement to the Commission for approval to authorize the
City Manager to execute the agreement and proceed with the implementation of the regulatory signs in the
Mango Terrace area as well as citywide.
This process of securing County's approval on Traffic Study normally takes over a year, but we have been able to work
with the County staff for possible response date of June 2009.
