Ajibola Balogun City Manager From: Eva Rosa, Compliance Manager Code Enforcement Division Date: April 15, 2009 i Re: Africanized Bees (AHB) 6721 SW 62 CT Ajibola, at Tuesday's commission meeting Ms. Schwartz mentioned the presence of bee hives, possible Africanized bees (AHB), at the above - referenced location. Chief Hills, from the fire department, advised me that they have a Bee Unit that specializes in the removal of AHB. He immediately called Al Cruz, from their Bee Unit, gave him the location and requested an inspection. The following day, I contacted Mr. Cruz to know the results of their inspection. He indicated that he saw bees, but the house is abandoned and they cannot trespass private property. I contacted Mr. Adrian Valero, who specializes in animal and bee removal, to inspect the property. Mr. Valero confirmed that there are two bee hives on the subject property. He noted that it appeared that one of the hives harbors AHB, and that the costs to the city for removal would be $450.00 per hive With your approval, I requested the removal of the hives. Today, Mr. Valero contacted this office indicating the hives had been removed, that both were AHB, that there may be some flying around for 2 or 3 days, and that they might come back because the house has many holes. He said, if they do come back in a couple of months, he will remove them again at no cost to the City. After three days, I will have an officer stop by and take pictures to the best of their ability because Code Enforcement Officers cannot trespass private property either. I will provide an update within a week. CADocuments and Settings \dhemandez.CSMI\Local Settings \Temporary Intemet ReAOLK21CAAFRICANIZED BEES 6721 SW 62 CT.doc
