Chairman Michelson read the letter into the minutes as fol.lows : "To City of South Miami Planning Board Dec . 1 , 1.982 Bernard Michelson - Chairman Re . #82-22 Varu Park Subdivision Dear Mr. Michelson , Several of the concerned neighbors went to the scheduled meeting last night only to find that this matter had been deferred . Since it may not be possible for us to come at the new time , we would like to have you know of our fears regarding this. possible change in the former. Wilson property . When Mr. Wilson bought the property at 6802 S . W. 64th Court about 13 years ago , he made the property into the .showplace of the neighborhood ; dug the lake , put red-brick facing on the house , put on the decorative wrought iron and did an excellent job of land- scaping what had been an already beautifully treed site . Three years ago when, he sold to Mr. Valdes , it slowly became the neighborho.od eye- sore . In these three years , the grass has only been cut about six times or about every six months. . It is never completely cut and the far West end has weeds and -grass about three feet high' at .this time. Although the property is completely fenced in the back , it has been a constant problem with kids going in and tresspassing and treating it as public property. The police finally refused to respond to complaints from the abutting neighbors . Needless to say , the crime rate in the immediate area soared . The house has been on the market and unoccupied all this time . We are concerned about having three emplty houses sitting where one empty house has sat. Property around here simply does not move very fast. Two houses have been for sale for over! two years within three blocks of this prop.erty. But this concern is not the issue . We got a xerox of the plat as submitted and woujld be terribly upset to see the total- distruction of magnificent Oa.k t',rees that were here thirty years ago when some of the . original houses were built . The poorly drawn plat indicates very small trees. The one on the corner has a canapy of at least 100 feet, and the cluster of Oaks in the front yard virtually cover the entire 150 feet .-width of the property . The back yard has several huge trees and many lovely palms which , with planning could be saved. The drawing shows that the ones in the front would surely have to go , or would be severly damaged if you forced the developer to widen the street . You may not know , but , 64 ave . is only a thru street for two blocks (from 64th Street to 70 Street) with only two streets that actually cross it (66 and 68) . There is absolutely no logic in widening. this portion when the traffic is only the residents within these blocks . And if you do plan to force him to cut 68th Street thru , you had better have a public meeting as this would greatly affect about 30 or 40 families on 64 court , 64 place and 65 avenue . All West of the Valdes site , and all now quite protected from the traffic that this opening would create . This .deadend should be deeded back to the abutting property owners. and completely shut off'. This is where the crooks hide their stolen goods . " Chairman Michelson stated the public hearing was open and asked if there was anyone present wishing to speak for or against the approval of this tentative plat. Mr. Myron Jacobs of 6740 S. W. 64th Court addressed thelBoard stating that his property is immediately adjacent to the -subject property . He objected to 68th Street being extended . He complained oaf the problems caused by the neglect . of the owner to properly maintain the property . Ms . Peggy Fisher of 6701 S . W. 64 Court also complainediof the problems caused by the neglect of the owner to properly maintain ',the property . Property around here simply does not move very fast . Two houses have been for sale for - over two years within three blocks of this property. But this-� epneern is not the issue. We got a xerox of the plat as submitted and would be terribly upset to see the total destruction of magnificent Oak treks that were. here thirty years ago when some of the original houses were built. The poorly drawn plat indicates very small trees. The one on the corner has a canapy of at least 100 feet , and the' cluster of Oaks in the front yard virtually cover the entire150 feet width of the property. The back yard has several huge thess and many lovely palms which, with planning could be saved. The drawing shows that the ones in the front would surely have to go , or would be Beverly damaged if you forced the developer to widen the street . You may not know, but , 64 ave. 'is only a thru street for two blocks (from 64th Street to 70 Street) with only two streets that actually cross it (66 and 68) . There is absolutely no logic in widening this portion when the traffic is only the residents within these blocks. And if you do plan to force him to cut 68th Street thru, you had better have a Public meeting as this would greatly affect about30 or 40 families on 64 court, 64 place and 65 avenue. All Vest of the Valdes site, and all now quite protected from the traffic that this opening would create. This deadend should be deeded back to the abutting property owners and completely shut off. This is where the crooks hide their stolen goods.
