RESOLUTION
Date: February 23, 2006
Item No.
AUTHORIZATION OF EXPEDITURE TO
PROVIDE EMERGENCY HOUSING
A RESOLUTION OF THE SOUTH MIAMI COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY
AUTHORIZING AN EXPENDITURE NOT TO EXCEED $6,500.00 TO PROVIDE
EMERGENCY HOUSING FOR SOUTH MIAMI RESIDENTS DISPLACED DURING THE
STRUCTURAL REPAIR OF HURRICANE RELATED DAMAGE SUSTAINED AT 6443
SW 60" AVENUE, BEARING FOLIO NO.: 09- 4025- 010 -0050; AND PROVIDING AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
BACKGROUND
During the January 24, 2006 Meeting, approval was granted to the Executive Director to exceed a
previously authorized expenditure amount to repair roof damage sustained during Hurricane Wilma
at 6443 SW 60'h Avenue. The affected property is currently under contract to be purchased by the
SMCRA and will remain occupied until the existing tenants have been successfully relocated.
During the repair of the roof, the SMCRA provided emergency housing for six displaced residents
at the Terrace Inn at a room rate of $69.00 per night. Roof repairs have now been completed and
staff has subsequently obtained three quotes to repair hurricane related damage to the building's
electrical system. At this time, just under $5,000.00 has been expended to provide emergency
housing for displaced residents for approximately two weeks. Staff anticipates that an additional
amount not to exceed $1,500.00 will be required -to provide emergency housing for displaced
residents for five additional days during the repair of the electrical system and final inspection by
the City. Electrical repair work will begin immediately upon issuance of a City of South Miami
electrical permit.
Approval of the attached resolution will authorize an expenditure not to exceed $6,500.00 to
provide emergency housing for displaced residents during repair of hurricane related damage
sustained at 6443 SW 60th Terrace.
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends approval of the attached resolution authorizing an expenditure not to exceed
$6,500.00 to provide emergency housing for displaced residents.
