noon of the day after the ERPB meeting,at which the application was approved,if all other requirements for the permit
have been met. An appeal of an ERPB decision or recommendation may be filed at any time before a building permit
is issued by filing same with the city clerk upon a form prescribed therefore. Appeals may be taken by the applicant,
interested citizens,or the city administration [per Section 20-6.2(A)of City's Land Development Code].

A. CANOPY& SIGNAGE [EB-97-007]
Applicant: Thomas Awning (Contractor)
Address: 5959 SW 71 Street(Four Points Sheraton)
Note: The applicant is proposing to construct a canopy extending from
the front entrance of the hotel to 18" from the curb line. This
canopy will contain signage. The signage proposal requires special
approval by the Board, as the size-of the lettering exceeds 6" in
height, which is permitted administratively.
Staff: Staff recommends approval of the application as submitted.
1. Mr: Ted Linze signed in as the representative. Staff presented the application to the
Board.
2. The Board reviewed the canopy portion of the application.
a. The Board discussed the placement and colors for the canopy with respect to the south
elevation of the building and the logo for the Four Points Hotel.
b. The Board suggested that the frame for the canopy be,painted the same color as the
canopy.
3. The Board examined the signage portion of the application.
a. Staff clarified that the proposal calls for higher lettering than what is permitted by
administrative approval.
b. The Board agreed that the proposed lettering, at 10"in height, would be acceptable.
c. The Board concurred that signage on the west side of the awning, in addition to the east
side, may be advisable.
4. In regard to the Board's concerns, Mr. Linze emphasized that the hotel's desire is that
the signage and logo be more prominent and that the canopy be less noticeable.
5. Motion: Mr. Diaz moved approval of the application as presented, based on the
conditions 1)that signage be placed on the west side of the canopy identical to that placed
on the east side, and 2)that the entire frame for the canopy be painted the same color as
the canopy itself. Mr. Whitehead seconded the motion.
6. Vote: Approved: 5 Opposed: 0
