A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,
FLORIDA,RESETTING THE FIRST REGULAR CITY
COMMISSION MEETING IN SEPTEMBER 2025 TO,
WEDNESDAY,SEPTEMBER 3,2025;PROVIDING FOR
AUTHORIZATION;PROVIDING FOR
IMPLEMENTATION,CORRECTIONS,AND AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS,the City of South Miami (the “City”)Commission has a regular meeting
scheduled for Tuesday,September 2,2025;and
WHEREAS,pursuant to Section 2-2.1(a)of the City’s Code of Ordinances,the City
Commission can reset a regular meeting to a different date by resolution adopted at a regular
meeting by a majority of the entire membership of the Commission;and
WHEREAS,the Commission desires to reset the first regular meeting in September 2025
from Tuesday,September 2,2025,to Wednesday,September 3,2025,the same date as the City’s
first budget hearing;and
WHEREAS,the City Commission finds that this Resolution is in the best interest and
welfare of the City.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA,AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.Recitals.The above-stated recitals are true and correct and are incorporated
herein by this reference.
Section 2,Resetting City Commission Meeting.The first regular City Commission
meeting in September 2025 originally scheduled for Tuesday,September 2,2025 is hereby reset
to Wednesday,September 3,2025.
Section 3.Implementation.The City Manager and City Clerk are hereby authorized
to take any and all actions necessary to implement the purposes and intent of this Resolution,
including providing any required public notice for the September 3,2025 date for the City
Commission meeting.
Section 4.Corrections.Conforming language or technical scrivener-type corrections
may be made by the City Attorney for any conforming amendments to be incorporated into the
final resolution for signature.
Section 5.Effective Date.This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoption.

SUBJECT: Resetting the 1st Regular City Commission Meeting in September 2025
RECOMMENDATION:
To reset the 1st Regular City Commission Meeting in September 2025 from Tuesday, September
2, 2025, to Wednesday, September 3, 2025, to be held the same date as the City’s First Budget
Hearing.
BACKGROUND:
Florida law establishes the advertising and public hearing requirements for local government
budget hearings, and the City is required to comply with these provisions. Under F.S. § 166.241(3)
(posting and notice requirements) and F.S. § 200.065 (Truth in Millage mailing and hearing rules),
the scheduling process effectively sets the earliest possible date for the first budget hearing in
2025 as September 3. This is the date already scheduled for the City’s first budget hearing.
State law also prohibits local governments from holding budget hearings on the same day as the
County or School Board. Miami-Dade County’s budget hearings are scheduled for September 4
and September 18, 2025, and the Miami-Dade County School Board’s final budget hearing is
scheduled for September 10, 2025.
Because the City’s first budget hearing is included in the Truth in Millage notice and falls just one
day after the regular Commission Meeting, it is recommended , both for efficiency and to avoid
requiring the public to visit City Hall twice in the same week, that the first regular meeting of
September be moved to coincide with the first budget hearing on September 3, 2025.
In accordance with Section 2-2.1(a) of the City’s Code of Ordinances, the City Commission may
reschedule a regular meeting to another date by adopting a resolution at a regular meeting with
the approval of a majority of the full Commission.
