I. SITE INVESTIGATION:
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VISIT THE SITE AND FAMILIARIZE HIMSELF WITH THE LOCATION OF ALL EXISTING
UTILITIES STUB -OUTS, PIPING, EQUIPMENT, ETC., AND/OR ANY CONDITION THAT MAY AFFECT HIS WORK. ALL THE
NECESSARY RE-ROUTING, RELOCATING AND/OR REMOVAL OF EXISTING PIPING, EQUIPMENT, ETC., SHALL BE
INCLUDED IN THE SCOPE OF WORK. IGNORANCE ON TI-E PART OF THE CONTRACTOR WILL IN NO WAY RELIEVE
HIM OF THE OBLIGATIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES ASSUMED UNDER THIS CONTRACT.
2. THE NATURE OF THE REMODEL TYPE CONSTRUCTION POSES SPECIAL PROBLEMS FOR THE DESIGNER ENGINEERS
AS WELL AS THE PLUMBING CONTRACTOR. EVERY EFFORT HAS BEEN MADE BY THE ENGINEERS TO SHOW AND
VERIFY, WHERE POSSIBLE, THE LOCATION OF THE EXISTING PLUMBING SYSTEMS. THE MAJOR PORTION OF THE
PLUMBING SYSTEMS ARE AS SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS: HOWEVER MINOR DEVIATIONS MAY BECOME EVIDENT
AS THE JOB PROGRESSES. NO ADVANTAGE IS TO BE TAKEN BY THE PLUMBING CONTRACTOR BECAUSE
TI 'ESE MINOR DIFFERENCES. THE PLUMBING CONTRACTOR SHALL PERFORM A FIELD VERIFICATION BEFORE
BIDDING THIS PROJECT.
3. CONTRACTOR WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR COORDINATING HIS DEMOLITION WORK WITH OTHER TRADES, AND TO
PROTECT FROM DAMAGE EXISTING PIPES USED FOR FUTURE CONNECTIONS.
4. EXISTING PIPES SERVING AREAS REMAINING IN SERVICE AT THIS TIME SHALL NOT BE INTERRUPTED UNLESS A
TEMPORARY INTERRUPTION IS COORDINATED WITH THE OWNER.
5. ALL SERVICE INTERRUPTIONS SHALL BE SCHEDULED WITH THE AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE OF THE OWNER.
ALL REMOVAL AND DISPOSAL WORK SHALL BE COORDINATED WITH THE AUTHORIZED REPRESENTATIVE OF THE
OWNER. REPRESENTATIVE OF THE OWNER (MCP). THE CONTRACTOR MUST BE AWARE THAT, DUE TO THE
LOCATION OF THE PROJECT, PORTIONS OF HIS WORK MUST BE PERFORMED AFTER HOURS.
6. CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE ALL NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT PROPERTY IN AREAS WHERE WORK IS
BEING CONDUCTED. THE CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DAMAGES CAUSED TO BUILDING
COMPONENTS DUE TO WORK OPERATIONS. PATCH AND REPAIR EXISTING SURFACES DAMAGED AS REQUIRED
TO MATCH ADJACENT SURFACES.
7 THE CONTRACTOR WILL BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL EXISTING CONSTRUCTION, INCLUDING EXISTING TO
REMAIN AND TO BE REMOVED. ITEMS AND DEBRIS TO BE REMOVED WILL BE PROPERLY DISPOSED OF BY THE
CONTRACTOR, WITHIN HIS CONTRACT, AT NO COST TO THE OWNER.
8. ANY UTILITY LINES TO REMAIN AND THAT ARE BROKEN OR DAMAGED DURING DEMOLITION OPERATIONS SHALL
BE REPAIRED BY THE CONTRACTOR AT NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE TO THE CONTRACT PRICE, OR SHALL BE
REPAIRED BY THE OWNER AT THE CONTRACTOR'S EXPENSE.
9. ANY DISCREPANCIES BETWEEN THE WORK DEPICTED ON THESE DOCUMENTS AND THE ACTUAL CONDITIONS
ENCOUNTERED SHALL BE BROUGHT PROMPTLY TO THE ENGINEER FOR REVIEW AND CLARIFICATION.
10. ANY DAMAGED EQUIPMENT SHALL BE REPLACED OR RESTORED TO ORIGINAL CONDITION.
II. CONTRACTOR SHALL INSPECT AND TEST THE FUNCTIONALITY OF THE EXISTING SPRINKLER SYSTEM PRIOR TO
COMMENCEMENT OF WORK AND SHALL REPORT ANY MALFUNCTIONS TO THE ENGINEER. IT IS THE
RESPONSIBLITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO BRING SYSTEM BACK TO WORKING CONDITIONS PRIOR TO
COMPLETION.

FIRE PROTECTION GENERAL NOTES:
I. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL FURNISH ALL LABOR, MATERIALS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY FOR THE
COMPLETE INSTALLATION OF THE FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS, ALL IN ACCORDANCE WITH
THESE CONSTRUCTION DOCUMENTS. ALL WORK PERFORMED UNDER THIS CONTRACT SHALL
COMPLY WITH THE FLORIDA BUILDING CODE 2004 AND ALL THE STANDARDS OF CONSTRUCTION
ESTABLISHED BY %%U'MIAMI CHILDREN'S HOSPITAU%%U INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE
FOLLOWING PUBLICATIONS: A) CHAPTER 59A-3 FLORIDA ADMINISTRATIVE CODE, B) NFPA 13
-2004, C) NFPA 99-2004 AND D) OSHA.
2. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PAY ALL INSPECTION FEES, ALL COSTS OF PERMITS AND
ALL OTHER COST INCIDENTAL TO THE COMPLETION AND TESTING OF THIS WORK
UPON FINAL ACCEPTANCE, A CERTIFICATE FROM THE LOCAL INSPECTION AUTHORITY
SHALL BE FURNISHED TO THE OWNER.
3, THIS CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A LOCALLY LICENSED JOURNEYMAN FOR THE PERFORMANCE
OFF ALL TASKS LISTED IN THIS TRADE. IF TRAINEES ARE USED, THEY SHOULD BE UNDER DIRECT
SUPERVISION OF A LICENSED JOURNEYMAN. ALL WORK SHALL BE UNDER THE COGNIZANCE OF A
MASTER. CONTRACTOR WILL BE REQUIRED TO SHOW EVIDENCE OF
MASTER/JOURNEYMAN/TRAINEE CERTIFICATES OF ALL PERSONNEL WORKING ON THIS CONTRACT.
ANY DELAYS IN WORK FOR FAILURE TO PRODUCE THE REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION SHALL BE AT
THE CONTRACTOR'S COST.
4. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL INSTALL NEW WET PIPE FIRE PROTECTION SPRINKLER SYSTEM AS
REQUIRED BY NEW FLOOR PLAN LAYOUT. (LIGHT HAZARD)
5. SPRINKLER PIPE SHALL BE NEW CONFORMING TO ASTM SPECIFICATIONS AND SHALL BEAR ASTM
STANDARD MARKED ON EACH LENGTH OF PIPE.

A. FOR SIZES ABOVE 2', PIPE MAY BE BLACK STEEL, SCHEDULE 10, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM AI35
GRADE A OR ASTM A53 GRADE A.
B. FOR SIZES 2' AND UNDER, PIPE SHALL BE BLACK STEEL, SCHEDULE 40, IN ACCORDANCE WITH ASTM
AI35 GRADE A OR ASTM A53 GRADE A.
D. THERMOPLASTIC, LL LISTED, CPVC FIRE SPRINKLER PIPES AND FITTING SHALL BE ALLOWED FOR
USE IN HORIZONTAL RUNS AS DEFINED BY NFPA 13.
C. PIPING THAT IS EXPOSED TO WEATHER OR INSTALLED IN A CORROSIVE ATMOSPHERE SHALL BE

6. ALL EXPOSED THREADS SHALL BE GIVEN A ZINC CHROMATE PRIMER.
7. ALL EXISTING HEADS TO REMAIN AND/OR TO BE RELOCATED SHALL BE REPLACED WITH NEW
SPRINKLER HEADS. ALL NEW HEADS SHALL BE QUICK RESPONSE (OR-165 F) 1/2' ORIFICE WITH
DISCHARGE COEFFICIENT 'K' - 5.6 AND RATED FOR 175 PSI MAX. SERVICE PRESSURE
8. SYSTEM SHALL BE INSTALLED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE LATEST ISSUE OF NFPA PAMPHLET 13
ALL CALCULATIONS, SHOP DRAWINGS, REFERENCED DIAGRAMS, PERFORMANCE CURVES AND DATA
UTILIZED TO LAYOUT AND IDENTIFY SYSTEM SHALL BE SUBMITTED TO ARCHITECTS/ENGINEER AND
SUBMITTED TO DCAD REPRESENTATIVE FOR FINAL ACCEPTANCE. DESIGN DENSITY SHALL BE
0.10 GPM / 1500 SQ. FT.
9. HANG ALL PIPING USING SPLIT RING HANGERS AND RISER CLAMPS, SUPPORT FROM GALVANIZED HANGER
RODS FROM BEAM CLAMPS OR PRE-SET INSERT ONLY, SHOOTING ANCHORS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
10. TEST 100% OF PIPING SYSTEM AT 200 PSI PRESSURE FOR A PERIOD OF 2 HOURS WITHOUT PRESSURE
LOSS. MODIFICATIONS AFFECTING 20 OR FEWER SPRINKLERS SHALL NOT REQUIRE TESTING IN EXCESS
OF SYSTEM WORKING PRESSURE AS PER NFPA 13 CHAPTER SECTION 2.1.4 'HYDROSTATIC TEST',
11. HYDROSTATIC TEST PRESSURE SHALL BE MEASURED AT LOW POINT OF SYSTEM OR ZONE BEING TESTED.
12. THE CONTRACTOR IS TO COORDINATE FINAL LOCATION OF ALL FIRE SPRINKLER HEADS AS SHOWN
IN THE ARCHITECTURAL REFLECTING CEILING PLANS.
13. MAINTAIN 8' CLEARANCE TO PARTITIONS FROM ANY PIPES WHICH RUN PARALLEL TO PARTITIONS
14. ALL CROSSINGS THROUGH PARTITIONS MUST BE MADE AT 90 DEG TO PARTITION. DO NOT CROSS AT

3. Firestop System -- The firestop system shall consist of the following:
A. Steel Wire Mesh -- (Not Shown) - Where needed to aid in system installation in concrete block wall construction, No. 8 steel wire mesh or
min 0.034 in. thick (20 MSG) galv sheet steel may be formed, centered and installed within the through opening such that it is recessed a min
of 1/8 in. from each surface of the wall.
B. Packing Material -- Min 2 in. thickness of min 4.0 pcf mineral wool bait insulation firmly packed into opening as a permanent form. Packing
material to be recessed from top surface of floor or from both surfaces of wall as required to accommodate the required thickness of fill
material.
C. Fill, Void or Cavity Material* - Sealant - Min 3/4 in. thickness of fill material applied within the annulus, flush with top surface of floor or with
both surfaces of wall. At the point contact location between pipe and concrete, a min 1/2 in. diam bead of caulk shall be applied at the
concrete/pipe interface on the top surface of floor and on both surfaces of wall.
