CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI
OFFICE OF THE CITY MANAGER
INTER-OFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO:The Honorable Mayor &Members of the City Commission
FROM:Genaro “Chip” Iglesias, City Manager
DATE:January 7, 2025
SUBJECT:Fee waiver request ($10,921)-2025 Das Renn Treffen Porsche Car Show.
RECOMMENDATION:This item is submitted for consideration of a fee waiver approval of
$10,921 for Petrol Brews, LLC to host its annual Das Renn Treffen Porsche
Car Show event, scheduled from Friday, January 17, 2025, through Sunday,
January 19, 2025
BACKGROUND:Petrol Brews, LLC (the “applicant”) has submitted a Special Event
Application to host its 11th-anniversary Das Renn Treffen (“DRT”) Porsche
Car Show at The Shops at Sunset Place (the “mall”) and multiple adjacent
streets from Friday, January 17, 2025, through Sunday, January 19, 2025
The celebration will begin with a Friday evening kick-off party, currently
scheduled from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, featuring a variety of musical
entertainment. The weekend festivities will include a two-day car show
showcasing rare and unique Porsches. The event hours are as follows:
Saturday, January 18th: 10:00 AM –8:00 PM
Sunday, January 19th: 10:00 AM –4:00 PM
The street displays will remain open to the public; however, tickets will be
required for access to designated VIP display areas within the mall.
Estimated ticket prices vary between $75 to $250, according to the
applicant.
DRT is expected to attract approximately 10,000 automotive enthusiasts,
aiming to boost the local economy by encouraging attendees to shop and
dine at South Miami businesses during the event. The applicant will hire a

private security company to supplement the presence of the City of South
Miami Police.
Pursuant to Section 15B-6(11) of the City Code, the City Commission has
the authority to waive event-related fees and costs as outlined in Section
15B-6.
The event application is under review and pending approval by the City
Manager in accordance with Section 15B-6 of the City Code. Before a
permit is issued, the applicant must, among other requirements, pay the
estimated event fees, submit the required Notification/Petition Approval
Form signed by businesses affected by the proposed street closures,
provide a Location Approval Form signed by the property owner of The
Shops at Sunset Place, and submit a Certificate of Liability Insurance that
complies with the City’s standard requirements, including naming the City
of South Miami as an additional insured.
EVENT BUDGET:The applicant's proposed event budget projects $437,250 in anticipated
income and $639,627.25 in expenses, resulting in a net loss of
$202,377.25. See the attached file, "Proposed Budget 2025," for further
information.
APPLICANT’S
REQUEST:The applicant has requested a full fee waiver of $44,127. However, staff
recommends waiving $10,921 in indirect fees while requiring payment of
$33,206 for all direct services.
The reduction inthe daily special event parking space rental fee from $100
to $25 per space for 306 parking spaces results in a total cost savings of
$22,950 for the applicant. This highlights the financial benefit achieved
through the reduced parking rates.
Despite this reduction, the City anticipates partially offsetting the lower
parking fees by generating increased revenue from parking fees in other
areas. These revenues are expected to exceed the typical collections for a
comparable weekend without the event.

City of South Miami Commission

South Miami, FL 33143
Dear Honorable Members of the South Miami City Commission,
Subject: Request for Waiver of City-Associated Costs
I am writing to formally and respectfully request a waiver of the costs associated with the
hosting of DRT 2025 (Das Renn TrePen), a cherished event that has a longstanding history
in the City of South Miami. Founded by myself and Yordaily Garcia in 2015, DRT has
become the largest Porsche gathering in South Florida, drawing tens of thousands of
automotive enthusiasts to celebrate the legacy and community of Porsche. The event
showcases an impressive array of Porsche models, from vintage classics dating back to
1950 to the latest innovations, making it a significant attraction for both residents and
visitors.
We are thrilled to be bringing this much-loved event back to South Miami for another year,
with its vibrant setting and strong ties to the community. However, as the proposed budget
attached hereto reflects, the cost of doing so is significant.
The outlined costs incurred for this endeavor total approximately $639,000.
The city’s fees reflected in such budget are $44,127.25, which include the following:
1. Application & Administration: $160 (Paid)
2. Police Department (Direct): $30,206
3. Public Works (Direct): $3,000
4. Public Works Material & Equipment (Indirect): $750
5. Street Closures & MOT (Indirect): $2,196
6. Parking Meters (Indirect): $7,650
7. Municipal Parking (5 decals): $325
DRT 2025 has been historically well-attended and deeply appreciated by the city’s
constituents. It is a unifying event that not only celebrates the automotive heritage of
Porsche but also fosters a sense of pride and community spirit in South Miami. However,
absorbing these costs could significantly constrain our ability to allocate resources
towards essential components of the event. As such, I respectfully request that the City
Commission waive the above referenced costs. We are grateful for the strong relationship
we have built with the City of South Miami over the years and are committed to continuing
this partnership. Your financial support in waiving these costs will not only help make the
best event possible but also aPirm our relationship with the City and the City of South
Miami’s dedication to fostering initiatives that enrich the lives of its residents.
