A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,
FLORIDA,CONSENTING TO THE APPOINTMENT BY
THE CITY MANAGER OF ALEJANDRO (ALEX)MUNOZ
AS THE DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS AND CAPITAL
IMPROVEMENTS FOR THE SOUTH MIAMI;PROVIDING
FOR IMPLEMENTATION,CORRECTIONS AND AN
EFFECTIVE DATE.
WHEREAS,pursuant to Article III,Section 5 of the City of South Miami City Charter the
City Manager has the power to appoint Directors of the City Departments with the consent and
majority vote of the Mayor and the City Commission;and
WHEREAS,a vacancy exists for the position of Director of Public Works for the City’s
Public Works and Engineering Department;and
WHEREAS,Mr.Munoz has over twenty (20)years of experience in executive leadership
roles and over thirty (30)years of experience working in government;and
WHEREAS,his resume outlines extensive applicable work experience,most recently as
the Director for Miami Dade County’s Internal Services Department;and
WHEREAS,the budget for Fiscal Year 2025 was approved with the inclusion of a
Director of Public Works;and
WHEREAS,Alex Munoz has the qualities and expertise necessary to fulfill the duties of
the position;and
WHEREAS,the Mayor and City Commission consent to the appointment of Alex Munoz
as the Director or Public Works and Capital Improvements.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI,FLORIDA,AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1.Recitals.The above-stated recitals are true and correct and are incorporated
herein by this reference.
Section 2.Consent to Appointment.The City Commission hereby consents to the
City Manager’s appointment of Alex Munoz as the Director of Public Works and Capital
Improvements for the City of South Miami.
Section 3.Implementation.The City Manager is hereby authorized to take all actions
necessary to implement this Resolution.

Section 4.Corrections.Conforming language or technical scrivener-type corrections
may be made by the City Attorney for any conforming amendments to be incorporated into the
final resolution for signature.
Section 5.Effective Date.This Resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoption.

Muñoz
RECOMMENDATION:Pursuant to the requirements of Article III, Section 5 of the City of South
Miami City Charter, it is recommended that the Mayor and the City
Commission adopt the attached Resolution consenting to the City
Manager’s appointment of Alejandro (Alex) Muñoz as the Director of
Public Works and Capital Improvements for the City of South Miami.
BACKGROUND:Mr. Muñoz has over twenty (20) years of experience in executive
leadership roles and over thirty (30) years of experience working in
government. Most recently, Mr. Muñoz was the Director for Miami Dade
County’s (MDC)Internal Services Department. In prior roles he served as
the Director of MDC Animal Services, Deputy Director for MDC Parks, and
MDC Assistant County Manager where he oversaw Public Works as well as
several other departments.
The budget for Fiscal Year 2025 was approved with the inclusion of a
Director of Public Works.The position has been either vacant, unfunded,
or underfunded since 2017. The Public Works and Engineering Department
is a key component of the City and requires a proven leader with expertise,
especially as the City begins discussing a bond program.
The Director will serve as a key member of the City’s leadership team with
direct responsibility for the effective implementation of City-wide strategic
and operating initiatives. The Director is tasked with providing leadership
through managing, directing,and coordinating the activities of the
department's several divisions, organizing land development services with
other divisions and departments,and providing highly complex staff
assistance to the Public Works and Engineering staff.
