PARTITION TYPE GENERAL NOTES!
I. GENERAL CONTRACTOR. SHALL BE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE APPROPRIATE
CONSTRUCTION OF ALL PARTITION TYPES AND WITH THE COORDINATION OF ALL
MECHANICAL, ELECTRICAL, AND PLUMBING SYSTEMS
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL GIVE SPECIAL CONSIDERATION TO EXAMINATION OF
ALL CONDITIONS THAT MAY PREVENT THE CONSTRUCTION OF SUCH
RATED PARTITIONS DETAILS/PLANS. VARIATION OF TYPICAL RATED PARTITION
DETAILS SHALL BE ANTICIPATED AND SHALL BE EXPRESSLY INCLUDED
AS PART OF THE WORK WHENEVER REQUIRED, AT NO ADDITIONAL COST TO THE
OWNER. A/E SHALL PROVIDE VARIATIONS TO DETAILS OF PARTITIONS REQUIRED .
IGNORANCE ON THE PART OF THE CONTRACTOR SHALL IN NO WAY
RELIEVE HIM OF THIS OBLIGATION AND RESPONSIBILITY ASSUMED UNDER
THIS CONTRACT.
2. GENERAL CONTRACTOR. SHALL IDENTIFY ALL FIRE WALLS ABOVE THE CEILING
WITH RED PAINT TO READ ACCORDING TO THE WALL RATING AS SUCH- LETTERS MUST BE 1 1/2, FOR
"ONE HOUR WALLS AND 3' FOR TWO HOUR AND SMOKE WALLS AS FOLLOWS -

4. ALL PARTITIONS SHALL BE 4' NOMINAL DIMENSION (UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON PLANS).
5. INTERIOR WALLS, PERMANENT PARTITIONS (RATED OR NOT) AND TEMPORARY PARTITIONS SHOULD
SUPPORT A MINIMUM OF (5) POUNDS PER SQUARE FOOT APPLIED PERPENDICULAR
TO THE WALL.
S. PROVIDE BACKING SUPPORT AT ALL PARTITIONS WHERE EQUIPMENT OR CASEWORK IS INDICATED
TO BE MOUNTED.
7. SOFFIT SUPPORTS ON RATED PARTITIONS SHALL BE PERMITTED, ONLY IF THEY ARE ATTACHED DIRECTLY
TO METAL STUDS AND/OR STRUCTURAL BACKING. ATTACHMENT TO GYPSUM WALLBOARD SHALL NOT BE
PERMITTED.
CONTRACTOR SHALL BE REQUIRED TO REMOVE ALL SUPPORTS NOT IN ACCORDANCE WITH ABOVE AT
NO ADDITIONAL COST TO OWNER.
8. PROVIDE CONTINUOUS (UNINTERRUPTED BY FURRING) R-11 (MIN.) RIGID INSULATION BOARD AT ALL
EXTERIOR BLOCK/CONCRETE WALLS FACING AIR CONDITIONED SPACES. INSTALL FROM FINISH SLAB TO
UNDERSIDE OF STRUCTURAL DECK. GYPSUM WALLBOARD TO CONCEAL INSULATION TO UNDERSIDE OF
FINISHED STRUCTURAL DECK.

10. RATED PARTITIONS SHALL BE BUILT FIRST IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE U.L. ASSEMBLY INDICATED.
ALL OTHER PARTITIONS ABUTTING RATED PARTITION SHALL NOT BE CONSTRUCTED UNTIL AFTER THE
RATED PARTITION IS COMPLETE.
11, y CONTRACTOR SHALL SUPERVISE AND INSPECT CONSTRUCTION OF ALL WALLS TO VERIFY THAT CONSTRUCTION
IS PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE TO SPECIFICATIONS AND U.L. ASSEMBLIES. ANY VARIATIONS SHALL BE
BROUGHT TO THE ARCHITECTS ATTENTION.
12. CEILING BACK-UP STUDS ARE NOT REQUIRED AT ANY PARTITION TYPE WHERE GYPSUM WALLBOARD
EXTENDS UP TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE FINISHED STRUCTURAL DECK ON BOTH SIDES OF THE PARTITION.
13. INSTALL BASE OF GYPSUM WALLBOARD A MINIMUM OF 3/8' ABOVE FINISHED FLOOR CONCRETE SLABS.
14. ALL PIPE, CONDUIT AND DUCT PENETRATIONS THRU RATED PARTITIONS
SHALL BE DONE AT 90 DEGREES (BOTH SIDES).
15. ANY RECESSED ITEM OVER 4'x4' IN SIZE INSTALLED IN A RATED PARTITION SHALL BE ENCASED
IN A FIVE SIDED 5/8' TYPE 'X' GYPSUM WALLBOARD ENCLOSURE (SEE TYP. DETAIL)
