09-49-065GENERAL NOTES 1.- The Fire Alarm System is designed for "Somerset Charter School at South Miami" located at 5876 SW 66th St South Miami, FI-33143. 2.- All equipment shall be New, Identified, Compatible and U.L. listed for use as per CDC ch. 8, NFPA 72 Ch. 1-4 and FBC 907. 3.- The Design and installation of the Fire Alarm system shall comply with the NFPA-70 National Electric Code (NEC) 2002 edition, the Florida Building Code (FBC) 11-4.28.3, 2004 edition, Life SafetyCode NFPA 101, 2003 Edition and NFFPA 72 National Fire Alarm Code 2002 Edition.. 4.- The Fire Alarm System consist of an intelligent fire detection and notification system. The Fire Alarm System is GE Security "iO-64" Intelligent Life Safety System. 5.- All Fire Alarm equipment for this project shall be rated "Power Limited'.. 6.- All fire penetrations shall be sealed with U.L. approved Fire Stop Materials. (see Fire Penetration Detail). 7.- Manual Stations to be installed at 48' AFF as per chapter 11 figure 5(o) of the Florida Building Code (FBC). 8.- Fire Alarm circuit to be class "B" Style "4' for initiation and class "B" Style "Y" for Notification circuits. 9.- Cable size shall comply with the Article 760-71 and the cable installation shall comply with the separation and use of conductors and cable as specified in Article 760-54 and 760-61 of the National Electric Code.. 10.- The Fire Alarm must have a ground as per manufacturer recommendation this ground to be 112 THHN min. It.- Location of Smoke Detector: The location of the Smoke Detector are specified in the set of plans. 12.- All 120 V. feed to FACP to be on dedicated circuit and marked red Fire Alarm circuit. 13.- All Control Relay to be within 3 feet of device being controlled. 14.- Building wiring shall specifically conform with the National Electric Code, Article 760 Part "C" for "Power Limited" Fire Protection signal circuit with emphasis on article 760-52(b) on power limited wiring method and materials article 760-28, 40% fill in 1" conduit minimum. 15.- All Alarm Notification Devices shall audible and visual and shall be done via Horn Strobe combination Devices. Strobe light shall be clear Xenon type, with intensity of 75 candelas as per article 4.28 (1) through (5) of the A.D.A. guidelines of July 25, 1992 and as per article 11-4.28.3 (4) of the Florida Building Code 2004 Edition. 16.- System to be a Certificated/placarded Central station services in comppliance with NFPA 72.8.2 2002 edition. 17.- This design was based on calculation over a set of plans provided to the design engineer. if the post installation on site tests conduted by the Authority having juridiction determines that, because of unforeseeable condions or change in field parameters, the audible alarm level falls below the required level in specific areas, the number of audible Horn Strobe shall be increased to comply with the requirements and to comply with the requirements and to the satisfation of the authority having juridiction. 18.- All new wiring installed in duct, plenuns and other spaces used for enviromental air shall be type FPLP, as per N.E.C. FIRE ALARM SYSTEM SEQUENCES OF OPERATION I. -The Activation of the fire alarm initiating devices shall automatically initiate the function detailed below A.- MANUAL FIRE ALARM PULL STATION Activation of the manual Fire Alarm Pull Station shall initiate the following functions: 1.-Generate an audible alarm signal at the Fire Alarm Control Panel and at the Remote Annunciator Panel. 2.-Generate an audible alarm signal simultaneosuly on all areas of the building by means of Horn and Horn/Strobe devices. Generate a visual alarm si at simultaneosuly on all areas of the building by the use of Strobe devices or combination Horn �Strobe notification devices. 3.-Indicate the location of the Pull Station by displaying, in English, the alarmed devices and its location on the FACP alphanumeric display and on the Remote Annunciator alphanumeric display. 4.-Transmits a Fire Alarm signal to the Listed Central Station by way of digital telephone dialer. B.- FIRE ALARM SMOKE DETECTORS Activation of the Fire Alarm Smoke Detector shall initiate the following functions: 1.-Generate an audible alarm signal at the Fire Alarm Control Panel and at the Remote Annunciator Panel. 2.-Generate an audible alarm signal simultaneosuly on all areas of the building by means of Horn and Hom/Strobe devices. Generate a visual alarm signal simultaneosuly on all areas of the building by the use of strobe devices or combination Horn/Strobe notification devices. 3.-Indicate the location of the smoke detector by displaying, in English, the alarmed devices and its location on the FACP alphanumeric display and on the Remote Annunciator alphanumeric display. 4.-Transmits a Fire Alarm signal to the Listed Central Station by way of digital telephone dialer. C.- FIRE ALARM ELEVATOR SMOKE DETECTORS (elevator lobby & machine room) Activation of the Fire Alarm Smoke Detector (elevator lobby & machine room only) shall initiate the following functions: 1.-Generate an audible alarm signal at the Fire Alarm Control Panel and at the Remote Annunciator Panel. 2.-Generate on audible alarm signal simultaneosuly on all areas of the building by means of Horn and Horn/Strobe devices. Generate a visual alarm signal simultaneosuly on all areas of the building by the use of strobe devices or combination Hom/Strobe notification devices. 3.-Indicate the location of the smoke detector by displaying, in English, the alarmed devices and its location on the FACP alphanumeric display and on the Remote Annunciator alphanumeric display. 4.-Initiate the automatic recall operations of all the elevator as follows: a. Recall all elevators to the ground floor upon activations of any alarm initiating circuit on any floor other than the ground floor. b. Recall all elevators to the altemate level upon activations of any alarm initiating circuit on the ground floor. 5.-Activate the warning lights at the elevator lobby. 6.-Tronsmits a Fire Alarm signal to the Listed Central Station by way of digital telephone dialer. D.- FIRE ALARM SMOKE DUCT DETECTORS. Activation of the Fire Alarm Smoke Duct Detector shall initiate the following functions: 1.-Generate an audible supervisory signal at the Fire Alarm Control Panel and at the Remote Annunciator Panel. 2.-Indicate the location of the Smoke Duct Detector by displaying, in English, the alarmed devices and its location on the FACP alphanumeric display and on the Remote Annunciator alphanumeric display. 3.-Shut off the air handling unit and A/C equipment associated with the Duct Detector. 4.-Transmits a Fire Supervisory signal to the Listed Central Station by way of digital telephone dialer. C.- FIRE ALARM WATER FLOW DETECTORS. Activation of the Fire Alarm Water Flow Detector shall initiate the following functions: 1.-Generate an audible alarm signal at the Fire Alarm Control Panel and at the Remote Annunciator Panel. 2.-Generate an audible alarm signal simultaneosuly on all areas of the building by means of Horn, Horn/Strobe and flowbell devices. Generate a visual alarm signal simultaneosuly on all areas of the building by the use of strobe devices or combination Horn/Strobe notification devices. 3.-Flow Bell shall sound upon activation of flow switch only. 4.-Flow Bell shall sound as long as water is flowing. 5.-Flow Bell shall not be capable of being silenced from FACP.. 6.-Indicate the location of the Waterflow switch by displaying, in English, the alarmed devices and its location on the FACP alphanumeric display and on the Remote Annunciator alphanumeric display. 7.-Transmits a Fire Alarm signal to the Listed Central Station by way of digital telephone dialer. D.- FIRE ALARM TAMPER SWITCH DETECTORS Activation of the Fire Alarm Tamper Switch Detector shall initiate the following functions: 1.-Generate an audible supervisory signal at the Fire Alarm Control Panel and at the Remote Annunciator Panel. 2.-Indicate the location of the Tamper Switch Detector by displaying, in English, the alarmed devices and its location on the FACP alphanumeric display and on the Remote Annunciator alphanumeric display . 3.-Transmits a Fire Supervisory signal to the Listed Central Station by way of digital telephone dialer. E.- FIRE ALARM ELEVATOR POWER DISCONNECT (SHUNT TRIP) Activation of the Fire Alarm Heat Detector at Hoistway Pit or Top of the shaft and Elevator Machine Room shall initiate the following functions: 1.-Generate an audible supervisory signal at the Fire Alarm Control Panel. 2.-Generate an audible alarm signal simultaneosuly on all areas of the building by means of Horn and Horn/Strobe devices. Generate a visual alarm signal simultaneosuly on all areas of the building by the use of strobe devices or combination Hom/Strobe notification devices. 3.-Indicate the location of the Heat detector by displaying, In English, the alarmed devices and its location on the FACP alphanumeric display. 4.-Initiate Control Relay to disconnect power to Elevator (shunt trip) 5.-Power for control circuit of shunt trip shall be monitored for integrity and upon loss of power shall initiate a supervisory signal at main panel to comply with NFPA 72 2002 edition 6-15.4.4 6.-Transmits a Fire Alarm signal to the Central Station by way of digital telephone dialer. II.- A trouble shall be annunciated upon any abnormal condition failure or removal of any devices. III.- A break in any field wiring or grounding of any coductor will result in the activation of the trouble buzzer, which can be silenced at the panel trouble silenced button. IV.- Any subesquent Alarm after system has been silenced shall resound Notification appliances. V.- Upon Alarm, Supervisory or Trouble signals initiation panel will transmit Listed Central Station by way of digital telephone dialer.. FIRE PENETRATION DETAIL Through penetration Firestop System System No. W-L-1296 July 09. 2003 F. Rating - 1Hr & 2Hr T. Rating - 0 & 1/4 Hr A Section A -A 1.- Wall Assembly - The 1 or 2 hr fire rated gypsum board/stud wall assembly shall be constructed of the material and in the manner described in the individual U300 or U400 Series wall or partition design in the U.L. Fire Resistance Directory and shall include the following construction features: A. Stud - Wall framing may consist of either wood stud or steel channel stud. Wood stud to consist of nom 2 in, by 4 in. lumber spaced 16 in. OC. Steel stud to be min. 3-1/2 in. wide spaced max. 24 in. OC. B. Gypsum board - The gypsum board type, thickness, number of layer, fastener type and sheet orientation shall be as specified in the individual U300 or U400 Series Design in the U.L Fire Resistence Directory. Max. diam. of opening is 10-5/8 in. The hourly F rating of the firestop system is equal to the hourly fire rating of the wall assembly in which it is installed. The hourly T rating is 0 and 1/4 Hr for 1 and 2 Hr rated assemblies, respectively. 2.- Through Penetrants - One metallic pipe, conduit, tubing or flexible metal pipe installed concentrically or eccentrically within opening. Annular space between penetrant and periphery of opening or sleeve shall be min. of 0 in (point contact) to max. 2 in. Penetrant to be rigidly supported on both sides of wall. The following types and sizes of penetrants may be used: A.- Steel Pipe- Nom 8 in. diam or smaller schedule 5 (or heavier) steel pipe. B.- Iron Pipe- Nom 8 in. diam (or smaller) cast or ductile iron pipe. C.- Conduit- Nom 4 in. diam (or smaller) steel electrical metallic tubing (E.M.T.) or nom. 6 In. rigid steel conduit. D.- Copper Tubing - Nom 4 In. diam or smaller Type L (or heavier) Copper tubing. E.- Copper Tubing - Nom 4 in. diam �or smaller) Regular (or heavier) Copper pipe. F.- Through Penetrating Product - Flexible metal piping - The following types of steel flexible metal gas piping may be used: 1. Nom. 2 in. diam. (or smaller) steel flexible metal gas piping.
