WHEREAS, in commemoration of Juneteenth 2022, the South Miami Black Cultural Affairs Foundation ("the applicant"), a not-for-profit organization, has submitted a Spec i al Event Application to host a two (2) day Juneteenth event series at Murr ay Park on Friday, June 17, 2022 from 6 :00-8 :30 PM and Saturday, June 18, 2022 from 12:00 -6 :00 PM; and WHEREAS, the applicant is requesting a fu ll fee waive r in the amount of $2,393 for the following City services; and CITY SERVICES AMOUNT SPE CIAL EVENT A PP LI CATION & AM I N F EE $160 PARK RENT AL FEE $4 25 PA RK S AN D R EC STA FF $680 POLIC E OF F-DUTY (4) WHEREAS, upon approval of this event, the appl ica nt and its vendors must provide the City with the required Certificate of Liability Insurance that complies with the City's standard insurance requirements, including naming the City of Sou t h Miami as an additional insured prior t o the event; and WHEREAS, the City will not host a Juneteenth Celebration event in 2022 should this Resolution be passed and a dopted. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. BACKGROUND:In commemoration of Juneteenth 2022, the South Miami Black Cultural Affairs Foundation (“the applicant”), a not-for-profit organization, has submitted a Special Event Application to host a two (2) day Juneteenth event series at Murray Park on Friday, June 17 th and Saturday, June 18 th, 2022. To kick off the tribute, the applicant has requested to host a free Family Movie Night on Friday, June 17 th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.to show “Selma”. The film is achronicle of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s campaign to secure equal voting rights via an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, Alabama, in 1965. The movie will be screened on a large inflatable screen. Visitors are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and blankets. The festivities will continue with a free Unity in the Community Juneteenth/Festival on Saturday, June 18 from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The applicant plans to have live music and 10’x10’ tents on the perimeter of the field showcasing arts & crafts vendors, food vendors, and other special exhibits/vendors. As per the applicant, each eventwill have an anticipated attendance of one hundred (100) persons. If all restoration work is not performed within 30 days of work completion, the City of South Miami Public Works Department may restore the event area and charge the ap p licant for the cost of restoration and additional i n cidental fees . 8.
