A Resolution authorizing the City Manager to accept a donation in the amount of
$10,000 from Mr. Patrick Robinson and $1,000 from Mr. Ravi S. Ramjit to be used
towards the Marshall Williamson Scholarship Program for the 2022-2023 academic
school year.
WHEREAS, the James T. Bowman Scholarship was established on January 14, 2003, to
honor the second City of South Miami Afro-American Commissioner; and
WHEREAS, in M arch 2021, the Scholarship was renamed the Marshall Williamson
Scholarship to honor all the people from that area of South Miami who serve and have served as
members of Boards and Committees as well as elected officials; and
WHEREAS, the scholarship was originally intended to encourage disadvantaged students
who are residents of the Marshall Williamson area of South Miami, who exhibit a·strong desire
for self-improvement, and who wish to further their education beyond high school. The
scholarship now applies t o disadvantaged students who are City-wide residents; and
WHEREAS, the City has set aside $10,000 in its fiscal year 2021-2022 operating budget to
be used towards awarded scholarship recipients for the 2022-2023 academic sc hool year; and
WHEREAS, the Cit y has received a generous donation in the amount of $10,000 dollars
from Mr. Patrick Robinson. Mr. Robinson was a city re sident and attended South Miam i Senio r
High School before attendi ng Gulliver Preparatory School. He was a two-sport star in football and
track. He played college football at Florida State, and was drafted by the Saints in the first round
of the 2010 NFL Draft; and
WHEREAS, in addit ion, the City received a generous donation in the amount of $1,000
from Committee Member Ravi S. Ramjit, founder and busine ss owner of European Collision
Center in South Miami; and
WHEREAS, the tot al funding available for scholarship recipients for the 2022-2023
academic school year is $21,000 dollars.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSIONERS OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The foregoing recitals are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and
correct and are hereby made a specific part of thi s re so lution upon adoption hereof.
Section 2. The City Manager i s hereby authorized to accept the generous donations in
the amount of $10,000 and $1,000 dollars from Mr. Patrick Robinson and Mr. Ravi S. Ramjit,
res9ectively, to be used tow ards the Marshall Williamson Scholarship program for the 2022-2023
aca demic scnoo\ year.

Section 3. Correct ions. Conforming language or technical scrivener-type corrections may
be made by the City Attorney for any conforming amendments to be incorporated into the final
resolution for signature.
Section 4. Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for
any reason held invalid o r unconstitutional by a court of comp etent jurisdiction, the holding will
not affect the validity of t h e remaining portions of this resolution.
Section 5. Effect ive Date. This resolution will become effective immediately upon
adoption.
