A Resolution of the Mayor and City Commissioners of the City of South
Miami, Florida, approving the Proclamation recognizing October 19, 2021,
as "Commander Stewart `Mike' McVay Day".
WHEREAS, the American Legion was chartered by Congress in 1919 as a patriotic
veteran's organization with the mission to enhance the well-being of America's veterans, their
families, our military, and our communities by our devotion to mutual helpfulness; and
WHEREAS, Commander Stewart "Mike" McVay has served tirelessly and with
distinction as Commander of American Legion Post 31 South Miami for 18 years; and
WHEREAS, Commander McVay dedicated himself and personally contributed to
providing the South Miami community with an American Legion Post where military veterans,
their families and worthy community organizations could proudly and patriotically gather; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commissioners of the City of South Miami wishes to
issue a proclamation to recognize the contributions of Commander McVay to the South Miami
community.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSIONERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The Mayor and City Commission for the City of South Miami hereby approve
of the attached proclamation recognizing October 19, 2021, as Commander Stewart `Mike'
McVay Day.
Section 2. Corrections. Conforming language or technical scrivener -type corrections
may be made by the City Attorney for any conforming amendments to be incorporated into the
final resolution for signature.
Section 3. Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for
any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall
not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.
Section 4. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoption.

Lieutenant of the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War
era with three years of active duty followed by two years as a Reservist,
and
`WXEwEf7S.• Stewart "Mike" McVay has served tirelessly and with distinction as
Commander ofAmerican Legion Post 31 South Miami for 18 years; and

providing the South Miami community with an American Legion Post

organizations could proudly and patriotically gather; and

thrived and will continue to do so because of the efforts of Stewart
"Mike" McVay; and
`WXrEWI E,9S.• Under Commander McVay's direction, a symbolic Fallen Soldier
Battlefield Cross was erected outside the American Legion Post 31,
South Miami, to honor all fallen service members.

Commission, Commissioners Brian Corey, Luis Gil, Walter Harris, and Josh Liebman, do
hereby proclaim Tuesday, October 19, 2021, as:
