A Resolution of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of South Miami, Florida,
supporting the renaming of Ludlam Glades Park to "Vice Mayor Robert C. Welsh, Jr.
Park", located at 7435 SW 661h Avenue, South Miami, FL 33143.
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission desire to rename the newly acquired park —Ludlam
Glades Park —to "Vice Mayor Robert C. Welsh, Jr. Park" in honor of the late Vice Mayor Robert 'Bicycle
Bob' Welsh; and
WHEREAS, Vice Mayor Welsh was a resident of the City of South Miami for over 30 years; served
on the Environmental Review and Preservation Board from 2011 until elected to the City Commission in
2012, he served on the South Miami Community Redevelopment Agency Board from 2012 to its
termination in 2020, as well as being an elected official serving as a City Commissioner from 2012 until
his death in 2021 and as the City's Vice Mayor from 2016 to 2018 and again from 2020 until his death in
2021; and
WHEREAS, Vice Mayor Welsh personally planted thousands of trees in South Miami; and
WHEREAS, Vice Mayor Welsh worked tirelessly to make the City of South Miami a more pleasant
and greener place; and
WHEREAS, Vice Mayor Welsh was a huge presence in the City and while serving as an elected
official on the City Commission and his absence will leave a significant gap in the fabric of the City.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF
SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1: The foregoing recitals are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and they are
incorporated into this resolution by reference as if set forth in full herein.
Section 2: The Mayor and City Commission desire and support the renaming of Ludlam Glades
Park —located at 7435 SW 66th Avenue, South Miami, FL 33143—to "Vice Mayor Robert C. Welsh, Jr.
Park" in honor of the late Vice Mayor Robert 'Bicycle Bob' Welsh.
Section 3: Corrections. Conforming language or technical scrivener -type corrections may be
made by the City Attorney for any conforming amendments to be incorporated into the final resolution
for signature.
Section 4: Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for any
reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding will not affect
the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.
Section 5: Effective Date. This resolution will become effective immediately upon adoption by
vote of the City Commission.
