A Resolution authorizing the City Manager to expend an amount not to exceed $769,000 to
cover Miami -Dade County solid waste disposal payments for fiscal year 2018/2019.
WHEREAS, the City requires that all contracts for goods and services in excess of $S000 shall be
approved by the City Commission; and
WHEREAS, the City has an opportunity to enter into a Franchise Agreement with the County for
utilization of this facility with a disposal fee of $62.67 per ton, and a transfer fee of $13.69 per ton through
September 30, 2019; and
WHEREAS, the City forecasts the expenditure of up to $769,000 to Miami -Dade County for the
procurement of solid waste disposal services for the fiscal year 2018/2019; and
WHEREAS, the agreement provides continued use by the City of the County Solid Waste Management
System to satisfy concurrency requirements of the Local Government Comprehensive Planning and Land
Development Regulation as it applies to solid waste disposal capacity for the solid waste which the City collects
for disposal, and which is committed to the County for disposal in the County Solid Waste Management System
in accordance with the agreement; and
WHEREAS, the expenditure shall be charged to Public Works Solid Waste 001.1720.534.4340 which has
an account balance of $769,000 before this request.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH
MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1. The City Manager is authorized to expend an amount not to exceed $769,000 for Miami -Dade
County disposal invoicing for the disposal of solid waste for the fiscal year 2018/2019, charged to account number
001.1720.534.4340 Solid Waste with a current balance of $769,000.
Section 2: Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held
invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect the validity of the
remaining portions of this ordinance.
Section 3. Effective Date: This resolution shall be effective immediately upon the time of its adoption.

SUBJECT: A Resolution authorizing the City Manager to expend an amount not to
exceed $769,000, for Miami Dade County to cover solid waste disposal
payments.
BACKGROUND: The City Charter requires that all contracts for goods and services in
excess of $5000 shall be approved by the City Commission.
The City forecast the expenditure up to $769,000 to Miami Dade County
Solid Waste Management for the use of disposal of solid waste through
the utilization of the Miami Dade County Resource Recovery facility.
The contract disposal fee is $62.67 per ton delivered to a County
Resources Recovery facility for fiscal year 2018-2019 and a transfer fee of
$13.69 per ton delivered to the Miami Dade County Solid Waste
Management to the transfer station facility for fiscal year 2018-2019.
