A resolution authoring a special events funding disbursement in an
amount not to exceed $4,000 for special event expenditures to the
South Miami Black Cultural Affairs Foundation associated with the
Unity Parade.
WHEREAS, the adopted redevelopment plan encourages the funding of special
events designed to stimulate economic development and community pride; and
WHEREAS, to fulfill these objectives, the Agency supports the MLK-Black History
Parade, the Santa's Elves Parade, the Holiday Christmas event and the Juneteenth
celebration; and
WHEREAS, during this year's budget approval process, the Board allocated a total
amount of $7,500 to sponsor annual events; and
WHEREAS, this year's Unity Parade is scheduled for February 16th. 2019; and
WHEREAS, this year's celebration promises to be bigger than all past events, but
the Agency's contribution is shrinking by $1,000; and
WHEREAS, the SMCRA Board desires to effectuate the goals and objectives of the
community redevelopment plan including funding community events.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMUNITY REDEVELOPMENT
AGENCY OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1. The South Miami Community Redevelopment Agency Board
authorizes a special events funding disbursement to the South Miami Black Cultural
Affairs Foundation in an amount not to exceed $4,000 for special event expenditures
associated with the Unity Parade in the SMCRA area; and charging Account 610-1110-
574-31-20 (Special Event Account).
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption.

SUBJECT: A resolution authoring a special events funding disbursement in an
amount not to exceed $4,000 for special event expenditures to the South
Miami Black Cultural Affairs Foundation associated with the Unity Parade.
BACKGROUND: The adopted redevelopment plan encourages the funding of special
events designed to stimulate economic development and community
pride. To fulfill these objectives, the Agency supports the MLK-Black
History Parade, the Santa's Elves Parade, the Holiday Christmas event and
the Juneteenth celebration. During this year's budget approval process,
the Board allocated a total amount of $7,500 to assist in facilitating these
annual events.
Staff recently received a preliminary event contribution letter in the total
amount of $4,000 for special event expenditures in conjunction with the
Unity Parade. The Unity Parade is expected to be the largest ever in
South Miami with twelve bands confirmed and 25 vendors.
Staff recommends that the SMCRA Board approve the event sponsorship
request in the amount of $4,000.
REVENUE: The total amount of $4,000 will be charged to Account No. 610-1110-574-
31-20 (Special Event Account).

Dear Mr. Fancher, this is an official request for funds to be transferred to the South Miami Black
Cultural Affairs Foundation, Inc. for the following combined event.
]A. -Unity Parade -Saturday , February 16, 2019- This in an annual activity to celebrate,
educate, and empower community residents, in the recognition of the contributions of
Martin Luther King, Jr in tribute to his Birthday -January 15, and local community leaders
in the African American communities. This is also an event that focuses on the
achievements of African American pioneers current and past in a comprehensive celebration
of Black History Month. The parade component will feature marching bends, community
organizations, governmental representatives, educational institutions, and churches in
celebration of Black History Month 2019 for the entire City of South Miami community
with it's primary focus on the designated Community Redevelopment district.
2B. Unity Festival -The festival component will include educational as well as entertainment
activities will include; community organization vendors for health, educational, voter education,
community engagement, and cultural enrichment. Food vendors will also be included along with
educational entertainment celebrating the arts of African American heritage through dance,
spoken word, vocal and instrumental music.
We are requesting that one transfer installment for the amount of S4,000.00 be deposited into the
SMBCAF, Inc. bank account that is on record for previous funding of events. If possible, we
would like to have this transfer of funds occur by Monday, February 4,2019, so that we can
finalize our arrangements for the upcoming events on February 16, 2019.
Thank you in advance for your support and cooperation in your assistance in making these
events possible, for the cultural enrichment of our community residents of the Community
Redevelopment district in the City Of South Miami.
