Res No 057-20-15497RESOLUTION NO.057-20-15497 A Resolution of the Mayor and City Commission of the City of South Miami, Florida, Co - designating S.W. 64' Court between S.W. 64' Street and S.W. 66" Street as "Rodney L. Williams, Sr. Court' directing the City Clerk to submit this Resolution to Miami -Dade County and to take all other necessary actions to carry out the purpose of this Resolution. WHEREAS, Rodney Williams was a member of the South Miami Community for over forty years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams was a community activist who was very involved in the community; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams served on the City's Community Relations Board and South Miami Community Redevelopment Agency Board; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams also was a mentor to the youth in the community, serving as youth football coach for the South Miami Grey Ghost; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams' business, Rodney's Unisex Barbershop was a great fixture in this community; and WHEREAS, Mr. Williams passed away suddenly on December 14, 2017 and is survived by his daughter Marlisia Williams and son Rodney Williams Jr.; and WHEREAS, the City Commission wishes to co -designate S.W. 64' Court between S.W. 64' Street and S.W. 661 Street as "Rodney L. Williams, Sr. Court". NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIANII, FLORIDA, THAT: Section 1. The foregoing recitals are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and they are incorporated into this resolution by reference as if set forth in full herein. Section 2. The City Commission wishes to co -designate S.W. 641 Court between S.W. 64" Street and S.W. 661" Street as "Rodney L. Williams, Sr. Court", and that it shall, as soon as authorized by Miami Dade County, be known in and by the City of South Miami as "Rodney L. Williams, Sr. Court", and signs shall be made and installed declaring that designation. The City Clerk is directed to submit this Resolution to Miami -Dade County and to take all other necessary actions to carry out the purpose of this Resolution. Section 3. This Resolution shall be provided to the US Postal Service and to the appropriate agencies to co - designate S.W. 641 Court between S.W. 64' Street and S.W. 66' Street as "Rodney L. Williams, Sr. Court". Section 4. Corrections. Conforming language or technical scrivener -type corrections may be made by the City Attorney for any conforming amendments to be incorporated into the final resolution for signature. Section 5. Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution. Section 6. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption PASSED AND ADOPTED this 2nd day of June, 2020.
