A Resolution of the Mayor and City Commissioners of the City of South
Miami supporting the position of the Miami -Dade County Legislative
Delegation that the State of Florida and applicable legislative and executive
officials take all measures to allow applicants to apply for reemployment
benefits retroactively to the date the applicant lost his/her job following the
Declaration of State of Emergency by Governor DeSantis; and that it
supports all reemployment measures recommended by the Miami -Dade
County Legislative Delegation in their April 7, 2020 letter to Governor
DeSantis.
WHEREAS, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a State of Emergency as of March
in the State of Florida due to the Corona Virus (COVID-19) and;
WHEREAS, COVID-19 has decimated the economy of Florida including, without
limitation, the commercial, hospitality, service, restaurants, bars, sales, and manufacturing sector
and trades, and;
WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the public's health, safety, and welfare, as well as
in the best interest of the residents of the State and the City of South Miami ("City"), to support
the relaxation of reemployment requirements which normally exist in the State's Reemployment
System due to COVID-19 and to try to bring needed economic relief to eligible State
reemployment applicants who lost their jobs due to COVID-19; and
WHEREAS, during the occurrence of this pandemic within our state, the Miami -Dade
Legislative Delegation advised Florida Governor DeSantis to retroactively provide assistance to
applicants of reemployment to the date they lost their jobs.
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
CONMMSIONERS OF THE CITY OF SOUTH NIIAM, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The foregoing recitals are hereby ratified and confirmed as being true and they
are incorporated into this resolution by reference as if set forth in full herein.
Section 2. The City of South Miami City Commission hereby support the Miami -Dade
Legislative Delegation's letter urging Governor Ron DeSantis to allow applicants who have
applied for reemployment benefits to have their benefits be retroactive to the date they lost their
jobs.
Section 3. Corrections. Conforming language or technical scrivener -type corrections
may be made by the City Attorney for any conforming amendments to be incorporated into the
final resolution for signature.
Section 4: The City Clerk shall forward a copy of this Resolution to -

Section 5. Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for
any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall
not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.
Section 6. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoption.
