BACKGROUND:VolksBlast, Inc. (“the applicant”), a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization, has submitted a Special Event Application to hold its annual VolksBlast Car show on Sunday, January 26, 2020 on 72nd Street (Sunset Drive) from South Dixie Highway to 57th Avenue (Red Road). VolksBlast, Inc. has held its annual Volkswagen Car Show event in the City of South Miami for 21 years now. This reoccurring event is free to the public and showcases approximately two hundred and fifty (250) classic Volkswagen cars. In addition, this event generates roughly ten thousand (10,000) attendees who help stimulate South Miami’s economy by purchasing from local merchants and restaurants during the event. Due to the commercial impact and the applicant’s contribution of $7,000 in support of the City of South Miami’s STEM and Teen Coding Program (FY- 19), the applicant is requesting a full waiver of fees for services rendered by the City. The applicant has submitted the necessary Notification/Petition form signed by businesses that will be affected by the requested street closures. Upon approval of this event the applicant must provide the City with the required Certificate of Liability Insurance that complies with the City’s standard insurance requirements, including naming the City of South Miami as an additional insured prior to the event. The City Manager is authorized to permit VolksBlast, Inc. to hold its annual 30 Car Show event on Sunday, January 26, 2020 within the downtown South Miami area on Sunset 31 Drive from South Dixie Highway to 57th Avenue (Red Road).32 33 Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized to waive the following special event 34 fees: Police ($4,276), Public Works ($1,095), 133 Parking meters ($3,325), Street Closure and 35 MOT fees ($1,206.25), totaling $9,902.25.36 37 Section 3. Severability.If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is38 for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding 39 shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.40 41 Section 4. Effective Date.
