A Resolution authorizing the City Manager to waive entrance fees at Murray Park Aquatic
Center on Saturday, May 18, 2019 in observation of National Kids to Parks Day.
WHEREAS, launched in 2011.. Kids to Parks Day —celebrated annually on the third Saturday
of May —is a national day of play that connects kids and families with their local, state, and national
parks; and
WHEREAS.. May 18, 2019, is the ninth Kids to Parks Day organized and launched by the
National Park Trust; and
WHEREAS, Kids to Parks Day empowers kids and encourages families to get outdoors and
visit America's parks, public lands and waters; and
WHEREAS, by discovering and exploring our public lands, kids across the country can learn
about park stewardship, outdoor recreation, STEM (science, technology, engineering and math),
and the history of our country; and
WHEREAS, the City's Parks and Recreation Department desires to encourage children to
lead a more active lifestyle to combat issues of childhood obesity, diabetes, hypertension and
hypercholesterolemia; and
WHEREAS, in observation of National Kids to Parks Day, the City's Parks and Recreation
Department is offering an additional complementary STEM classes for the month on May 18th at
the Gibson -Bethel Community Center as well as promoting a social media bingo game campaign
that encourages residents/users to "check -in" when they visit physical locations like gyms,
playgrounds, athletic fields, tennis courts, etc. at our parks; and
WHEREAS, in addition, the Parks and Recreation Department is requesting to waive
entrance fees at Murray Park Aquatic Center on Saturday, May 18, 2019; and
WHEREAS, Kids to Parks Day will not only empower kids and encourage families to get
outdoors but also broaden children's appreciation for nature and outdoors.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY
OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1: The City Manager is authorized waive entrance fees at Murray Park Aquatic
Center on Saturday.. May 18, 2019 in observation of National Kids to Parks Day.
Section 2: If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for any reason held
invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect the
validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.

Section 3: This resolution shall become effective immediately upon adoption.
