Ba.) A Resolution of the City of South Miami, Florida, relating to the City’s 2018/2019
fiscal year budget; advising the Miami-Dade County Property Appraiser of its
proposed millage rate of 4.3000 mills; its rolled-back rate of 4.0302 mills, and
announcing the dates of public hearing to consider the proposed millage rate
and tentative budget. 3/5 (City Manager-Finance Dept.)
3
Manager Alexander presented the item. He's recommending keeping the millage rate at 4
4.3000 mills but if it is raised there are more options for future expenditures and possible revenue 5
reductions. 6
7
Mayor Stoddard suggested raising the millage rate to 4.6614 mills this year and lower the 8
millage next year. Some reasons for this suggestion are the pending police contracts and 9
purchase of land for a City park. 10
11
After the discussion on this item, the majority of the Commission wanted to keep the 12
millage rate as the resolution stated. 13
14
Moved by Mayor Stoddard, seconded by Vice Mayor Harris, the motion to approve 15

The City’s Annual Back to School Giveaway will occur on July 21,
2018 at the Gibson-Bethel Community Center. This year we have
collected over 300 backpacks filled with school supplies. If you’re
available, please feel free to join staff and volunteers with distribution
and wishing our children the best of luck during this upcoming school
year.
Here is an estimated look at the Mid-year crime figures up to June
30…
City of South Miami Police Department
Mid-Year 2018 Crime Figures up to June 30, 2018
Year Homicides Robberies Total Violent Burglaries Shoplifting Vehicle 26 Auto Theft Total Crime
2017 1 5 33 52 48 59 16 351
2018 0 5 15 46 42 63 13 271
Overall, it should mean we are down about 23 percent over last
year.
If all things hold as is, we should forecast about a total of 550 crimes
for the year which would be our lowest yet.
