A Resolution of the Mayor and City Commission for the City of South Miami
thanking the Desoto County Commission for being good stewards of the
environment.
WHEREAS, Mosaic Co., a phosphate and potash mineral mining and processing
company, requested to rezone approximately 14,000 acres between State Road 72 and State
Road 70 in Arcadia from Agricultural land to Phosphate Mining Industrial land; and
WHEREAS, that area is in the watershed of Horse Creek, a tributary of the Peace River,
which supplies water to 3 counties; and
WHEREAS, after two days and 11 hours of hearings, DeSoto County commissioners
voted 4-1 against Mosaic Co.' s request.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA THAT:
Section 1. The Mayor and City Commission hereby thanks the Desoto County
Commission for being good stewards of the environment.
Section 2. The City Clerk is instructed to send a copy of this resolution to the
commissioners of the following counties: Desoto, Hardee, Polk, and Manatee.
Section 3. Severability. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for
any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall
not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.
Section 4. Effective Date. This resolution shall become effective immediately upon
adoption by vote of the City Commission.
