On your black olive removal permit ...
It is an exotic specimen-sized tree, so while it can be removed, it must be replaced with approximately 1000 sf of
replacement canopy (the tree is probably bigger than that, but since this is a single family residence, we don't want to go
"overboard"with mitigation), so in brief, I would recommend that you require:
1) 2 native trees counting toward 500 sf each, for a total of 1000 sf
2) 2 exotics (300 sf each)and 1 native(500 sf each), for a total of 1,100 sf
3) Some combination thereof, keeping in mind that at least 30% of new plantings must be native.
Applicant should submit a tree replacement plan together with the removal permit.
If for some reason, the applicant cannot fit this many trees on-site, the value of the trees not installed must be paid to the
City's Landscaping Trust Fund.
Also, the issue of overhead powerlines must be taken into account when selecting tree species and tree locations.
will be out of the office until next Tuesday, so we can go over it again then if this can wait.
