06-1923-004Notice of Fire Ala rm Policy Change Effective June 1St° 2006 The second phase of Miami -Dade Fire Rescue's Central Station Service Fire Alarm System program will go into effect on June 15t, 2006. In order to comply with a recent legislative change to F.S.S. 489.516(5) all permit applications for Central Station Service Fire Alarm Systems must be made by one of the following: '� A contractor iirencer,� in the State of Finrirlln to install fire alarm systems and listed by an approved third party verification agency (F.M. Approvals or U.L.) to install central station service fire alarm systems, or 2) A contractor licensed in the State of Florida to install fire alarm systems, who must provide a copy of a valid contract between the owner of the property or business and a listed Central Station Service company to provide servicing of the system and supervision of the installation in compliance with NFPA 72 8.2.2 and 8.2.3. Proof of listing or a copy of the contract shall be provided at the time of submittal for plan review to the Fire Engineering and water Supply Bureau. No permit will be approved without the above required documentation. For all Central Station Service Fire Alarm Systems ai posted certificate or placard must be provided at the time of final inspection and no final inspection shall be approved without proper proof and documentation. A posted U.L. fax -back acknowledglement will be accepted pending receipt of an original U.L. certificate. The certification or placard shall be required to remain continuously in effect for the life of the system or until replaced by a new system. A service contract shall be in effect for the duration of the certificate or placard providing all of the six elements of central station service described in NFPA 72 8.2.2, 2002 edition and shall be executed between the listed fire alarm service company and the property owner or lessee. In addition to the information required by the third party verification agency, all certificates and placards shall include the name and address of the protected premises in compliance with the Code of Miami - Dade County Section 14 -10 (4). Sec. 14 -10. Fire alarms. (4) Fire alarms; posting requirements. A fire alarm user shall conspicuously post at the main entrance to the alarm user's premises a notice stating (1) the name of an individual or alarm company able and authorized to enter the premises and deactivate the alarm; (2) emergency telephone numbers by which those individuals can be reached at all times; and (3) the name and address of the alarm user. The. information must be kept current and failure to update this information within forty -eight (48) hours of any change constitutes a violation of this section.
