The resolution provides for the appointment of Mr. Lee
Feldman, City Manager for the City of North Miami. Mr. Feldman will
be given the responsility for recommending 2 other city managers to
serve on the committee. None of the city managers have any ties to
the city of south Miami and, of course, none of them will be
candidates for the position. Vice-mayor Robaina, stated his desire
that Mr. Whitt be considered for the permanent position.
The city manager selection committee will receive Lfie city
commission's criteria for screeniq candidates. it will interview
commission members to further identify selection criteria. I
expect, for instance, ohat the commission will want a city manager
who has considerable experience in downtown revitalization,
redevelopment and urban infill programs. The selection committcc
will prepare advertisements for publication in appropriate
publications. You will decide whether you want a Florida or a
nation -wide search. They will review and evalbate responses by
candidates, screen candidates and recommend 5 candidates to you to
interview. The commission can interview additional candidates, who
submitted their applications to the committee, as well.
The costs to the city will be the cost cif advertising and such
other costs that you might authorize. The city managers do not
charge a fee for their professional service. They volunteer their
services in order to promote the professionalism of their office.
