Res No 149-96-9903A RESOLUTION OF THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE
CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, RELATING ESTABLISHMENT OF
A SAFETY COMMITTEE, PROVIDING COMPOSITION OF THE
COMMITTEE, AND DEFINING DUTIES OF THE COMMITTEE.
WHEREASj the City of South Miami is committed to provide a
safe and healthy workplace for its employees, thereby decreasint
the frequendv and severity of work-related injuries; and
WHEREAS, State of Florida, Division of Safety, Florida Rule
381-17 mandates establishment of a Safety Committee, and the
Florida League of Cities provides Employer Workplace Safety
Program Credit for Workers' Compensation for its members who
comply with 381-17;
NOW THEREFORE 88 IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AM CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA:
Section 1. The City Commission hereby authorizes the
City Manager to appoint a Safety Coordinator, and a Safety
Committee in accordance with Florida Rule 381-17.
Section 2. This committee shall be composed of one (1)
representative selected from PEA; one (1) representative selected
from AFSCME; the City's Safety Coordinator and Risk Manager (both
of whom will be employer representatives); and one (1)non-union
employee representative.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately
upon approval.

Safety Committee
The attached resolution establishes a Safety Committee, and authorizes the
appointment of a Safety Coordinator, and reaffirms the City's commitment to providing
a safe and healthy work environment for its employees.
The State of Florida Division of Safety, Florida Rule 381 A 7, mandates establishment of
a Safety Committee appointment of a Safety Coordinator. Additionally, Florida League
insurer, provides a credit for those members in

The rule specifies certain committee composition. It requires representation from any
bargaining unit employee groups, and requires that an equal number or more members
are non - management (employee) representatives. This committee must meet at least
