Res No 063-96-9817E' SOLUTION NO. 63-96-9817 WHEREAS, the 1994 construction of the motor pool maintenance shop did not include the installation of a hydraulic vehicle lift; WHEREAS, this situation necessitates the use of individual lift jacks to perform the most routine of mechanical chores such as oil changes and tire replacements; and, WHEREAS, the frequent use of these jacks severely compromises the safety and efficiency of the operation and is unnecessarily taxing on the motor pool staff, and, WHEREAS, the Department plans to initiate a formal preventive maintenance program for the entire fleet, a practice which is common in municipal motor pool shops; and, WHEREAS, the preventive maintenance program will result in an increase in the shop's workload, an increase which can be partially countered by the use of a vehicle lift. NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section 1. The City Manager be, and is hereby authorized to disburse the surn of $3,545.00 to Coastal Equipment for the purchase of a hydraulic vehicle lift. PASSED AND ADOPTED this 2nd day of April , 1996. COMMISSION VOTE Mayor Cunningham: Vice Mayor Robaina: Commissioner Price: Commissioner Bethel: Commissioner Young: Yea Yea Yea Yea Yea c CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI INTER - OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Commission L F cO die Cox City Manager DATE. RE• April 2,* 1996 Agenda Item# Commission Meeting, April 2,1996 VEHICLE LIFT - MOTOR POOL The attached resolution seeks approval of an expense of $3,545.00 for the purchase of a hydraulic vehicle lift for the motor pool maintenance shop. Funding for this acquisition is available in account number 1760-6430, "Equipment - Operating ". The safety and efficiency of this operation are severely compromised without the availability of a vehicle lift. The recent construction of the maintenance shop did not provide for a hydraulic lift. This equipment is a standard feature in most mechanical maintenance operations. Without. a lift, mechanics are required to use individual floor i acks to raise vehicles for routine tasks such as oil changes, brake work, and tire replacements. Although the use of floor j acks is occasionally required in shops, resorting to this practice constantly not only hampers productivity, but represents an unnecessary safety risk. The motor pool maintenance shop will be implementing a formal preventive maintenance program in the near future. This program is common in effective, well organized maintenance operations, as it helps reduce costly repairs and increases equipment service life. Based on the above, the purchase and installation of a hydraulic vehicle lift is required. It is therefore recommended that the purchase expense of $3,545.00 be approved by the Mayor and City Commission. 1 CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI INTER - OFFICE MEMORANDUM TO: Mayor and Commission L F cO die Cox City Manager DATE.
