_add-on a)Add-on item a) Sponsored by: Vice Mayor Harris City Commission Meeting: 04-03-18 RESOLUTION NO. __________ 1 2 A Resolution authorizing the City of South Miami (“City”) to support Pelican 3 Harbor Seabird Station and to make a donation to its fundraiser. 4 5 WHEREAS, Pelican Harbor Seabird Station (“PHSS”) is a nationally and internationally recognized 6 center for seabird rehabilitation; and 7 8 WHEREAS, PHSS is a non-profit 501(c)(3) charity and operates solely on donations; and 9 10 WHEREAS, the mission of PHSS is to rescue, treat, rehabilitate and care for sick, injured, or orphaned 11 wildlife, and to foster and promote the preservation, protection and propagation of pelicans and other wildlife; 12 and 13 14 WHEREAS, the PHSS receives almost 2000 birds and other wildlife each year and took in more than 15 128 species in 2013, including wildlife that inhabit the City of South Miami; and 16 17 WHEREAS, the City is committed to the preservation of the environment and of wildlife - the City was 18 designated as a ‘wildlife sanctuary’ by resolution of the Mayor and City Commission; and 19 20 WHEREAS, the City wishes to support the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station. 21 22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF 23 THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA, THAT: 24 25 Section 1. The City hereby supports the Pelican Harbor Seabird Station and the fundraiser with a 26 donation in the amount of $ ________ of which $_____ is to be expended from the discretionary account of 27 Vice Mayor Harris and the City Manager is instructed to cause the donation to be paid. 28 29 Section 2. If any section clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for any reason held invalid 30 or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, the holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining 31 portions of this resolution. 32 33 Section 3.
