The current models in our Department are no longer produced, are out of warranty, and the cost of repairing a unit is as nearly as much as buying a replacement. The Police Department has introduced a plan to slowly replace older units over the next few years. This purchase also includes cartridges for training and on-duty use as well as batteries. This purchase is being made from AXON (previously TASER International). Not to exceed $19,120 $19,120 for ten (10) TASER ECD's, cartridges and battery packs from Supplies Account 001-1910-521-5210 with a current balance $129,069. WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Commission wish to purchase 10 new Electronic Control Devices (ECD) and equipment from Axon Enterprise, Inc. (Formerly Taser International) for the Police Department, and WHEREAS, this purchase will provide replacement for current ECD units which have been decommissioned; and WHEREAS, this is a sole source item as the Police Department currently only utilizes Axon Electronic Control Devices and it is the only ECD that would be compatible with current programs implemented with the body cam program; and, WHEREAS, the need for additional cartridges and replacement batteries is needed for training and deployment; and WHEREAS, the cost of the 10 Electronic Control Devices and equipment is $19,120 and the purchase ofthis equipment will be charged to account 001-1910-521-5210, Supplies. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SOUTH MIAMI, FLORIDA: Section I: The City Manager is authorized to purchase 10 new Electronic Control Devices and Equipment from Axon Enterprise, Inc. as approved in the 2017-2018 budget. Section 2. Severability: If any section, clause, sentence, or phrase of this resolution is for any reason held invalid or unconstitutional by a court of competent jurisdiction, this holding shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions of this resolution.
